As he explained everything I listened. I held onto every word so dearly like it was the written gospel.
"I was waiting for you." He started, falling into the story himself, his own emotions swelling up behind the dark brown of his eyes.
"We has just won and instead of thinking about how I succeeded and how we were going to face Shiritorizawa and beat them all I thought of was you. And just how badly I wanted to see you."
"I was standing on the court and I was making my way to the door but people were stopping me as the team was excited. That match was unexpected and we were all just relieved that we had won.
"I felt arms around me and at that moment I thought it was you. I turned and was ready to hold you tightly to me when I saw the hair. When I pulled back I felt revolted and annoyed. But I put on the mask like I always did, I didn't want to offend anyone, even if they dared to act like I knew them as well as we do.
"The girl started talking and she just wouldn't stop. A few times I tried to walk away from her but she just continued to step in front of me, continuing to tell me how amazing I did and how I led the team well.
"I just kept looking for you."
When he saw that the sincerity in his eyes made me believe him. He wasn't trying to but I could feel how much he meant those words when he said them. I nodded, waiting for him to continue.
He took a deep breath, closing his eyes and letting his shoulders relax before he continued. "I turned to look for Iwaizumi and that's when she jumped up and hugged me. She had my wrapped in her arms so tightly it was hard to get away from her. Part of it I think might have been because of the shock."
He laughed nervously as he looked down at his left hand that still sat wrapped around my waist. He turned, almost embarrassed, like he didn't deserve to have it there.
He went to slide his arm away but I placed my hand firmly over his, my heart aching.
I knew this wasn't all my fault but I still couldn't help feeling bad for reacting the way I did. This was a start to showing I was sorry.
He took another deep breath and he squeezed our interlaced fingers. "I was about to push her away when you walked through the doors." He finally looked up at me, eyes full of so much anger and resentment but also pain and sadness. He chuckled darkly. "You walked in at the worst time. It looked to you that I was embracing her when instead she made my skin crawl and I wanted nothing more than to run to you."
"I know that my word may not mean much but I want you to know that I do care about you, so much more than I have cared about anyone or anything else. And even if you don't believe me I need you to know my truth."
Without thinking I leaned forward and placed a kiss on his cheek. His cheeks reddened as I have him a small smile. "I believe you Tooru."
"You mean-?"
"Yes." I said with a small laugh. "I'm sorry for how I overreacted. I was hit with so many situations and emotions at once that instead of talking to you I blew up, which was not the right way to handle it."
"Well I'm sorry for claiming you the way I did. I definitely could have handled that better than I did."
"Truce?"
"Truce." He replies with a smile.
I smiled widely back.
"So" he started as he pulled me closer to him. "You're calling me Tooru now huh?"
"Okay the moments been ruined" i said as I rolled my eyes. I moved my hand from his and went to pull his arm from my waist. Instead he tightened his grip.
"And kissing me on the cheek? That's pretty bold considering you said we had to stay friends on the Ferris wheel."
"Kissing on the cheek is a sign of affection not only to people in a relationship." I chocked out, I felt my face flush red. My hands started to shake as I once again went to pull away from him but he continued to maintain his hold on me.
"Well that was pretty sneaky of you, don't you think?" He asked, his lips nearing mine.
I felt my heart hammering in my chest as he got closer.
"I don't think so." I replied. I felt breathless, I couldn't think of anything but wanting to kiss him. Even after all the answer and sadness that's the only thought swirling in my head.
He leaned next to my ear. "Well two can play at that game." He said, his voice husky and almost growling. "Ease up Miyumi, I won't do anything yet."
He pulled back and it took a second to regain my composure. Without saying a word I stood up and started to walk briskly down the hallway.
"Miyumi come back!" He called, laughing as he did so.
"Not in your life Tooru!"
I let out a shriek as my feet left the ground. The stupid tree legged man had caught up to me and had thrown me over his shoulder.
"Put me down!" I yelled as I hammered my fists against his back.
He just laughed as he ignored me and walked back towards the gym where his teammates were probably gathered outside. Finally he stopped and yelled, "Alright everyone let's go get some pizza! Tonight is on me!" The boys cheered and Oikawa finally put me back on my feet.
I crossed my arms over my chest and pouted, I turned to look for Junko and saw Iwaizumi say something to her quietly before pecking her on the lips.
"Junko!" I screamed.
She stifled a laugh as I tried to make my way over to her, but Oikawa just lifted me up, holding me in a fireman carry.
"Tooru I swear put me down!" He laughed. "I'm serious, I need to know how Iwaizumi finally mustered the courage to ask Junko out!"
Suddenly the boy put me back on my feet. He took my hand and dragged me towards the two.
"Iwa you got a girlfriend!" Oikawa whined. "And you didn't even tell me, you just left me all alone in the dust!"
Iwaizumi smacked him on the back of the head. "You aren't alone and it just happened trash mouth."
"How did it happened?" I asked as I turned my attention to Junko.
"He just asked at the end of the game." She said with a shrug. "He told me that he would have preferred asking me after they won but I liked this way just as much." Iwaizumi blushed red.
"So how about pizza?" He asked as he rubbed the back of his neck.
I let out a laugh along with the others at his awkwardness. Oikawa suddenly draped his coat over my shoulders. I turned to look at him and he leaned down once again to my ear. "Remember, I can strike at any time."
He flashed an award winning smile and a wink before turning back to Iwaizumi. I felt my heart hammering in my ears and my face turn red. Junko nudged my leg with her foot and I turned to look at her.
She gave me a questioning look and I mouthed to her that I'd tell her later to which she nodded.
And for the rest of the night all I could think about how much I hated yet loved that Oikawa Tooru is a god damn tease.
