Today was Friday afternoon, a bit over a month and a half since I came to Shiritorizawa Academy.
Today with the tournament on its second day, with quarter and semifinals, and we had the opportunity to go see the volleyball matches. Classes were not required but I decided to go to make sure I didn't want to miss my hard classes. Plus I knew Shiritorizawa would be able to at least make it through the first round so there were no worries.
I was so excited to go that I actually texted Ushijima good luck that morning.
Ushijima and I actually had become friends since I joined Shiritorizawa. We weren't very close but he was nice to have around and talk to. He was quieter, more straightforward than anyone else I've met, well compared to Oikawa not Iwaizumi as much.
He made me feel less broken up about the way things had ended up Aoba Joshai. We didn't hang out really but we texted and talked when things were bothering us. I think he understands that as captains we are in the same boat and I felt honored that he would talk to me at all.
I texted Oikawa, wishing him good luck with his matches. He gave me a very short and to the point response. That boy was already in game mode. And so I decided not to disturb him anymore. Iwaizumi and I also talked back and forth. The ace seemed normal but I could tell he was nervous. This would be his last tournament after all.
As for me, we had one last game next Tuesday before we wrapped up our main season and went into play offs. So Sensei gave us today off from practice with the promise of practicing after the volleyball final and Sunday instead of today. We had the best record of the other schools with only one loss from the very beginning of the season, the game where the captain I replaced was severely injured. So we held the top seat in the Miyagi prefecture. But until we won that wouldn't mean anything.
I texted Junko and told her to meet me there in which she promptly responded to, flipping out excitedly. Ushijima also responded, saying thank you.
My last few classes were nothing I needed to worry about so I decided to leave early. A few fan busses were running all day until the school day ended. I changed out of my uniform and into a pair of jeans and boots that I brought with me to school. I changed into a plain grey T-shirt and put on my Shiritorizawa soccer jacket before I packed up my things and made my way to a bus stop.
I hopped on the first fan bus out and sat down at the back. I put my headphones in and texted the one person who I knew would already be there.
12:32 pm
Miyumi:
Hey there stranger! How's the matches been going?Junko:
Amazing! Please tell me that you'll be here soon to watch them!Miyumi:
I'm on the bus there now!! It should be about twenty minutes or soJunko:
I can't wait!!! I'll see you then and fill you in!!For the remainder of the ride I put on my headphones and tried to keep myself calmer by listening to the music. My leg shook instinctively as I looked out at the passing scenery as we drew closer and closer to the tournament.
Whoever won would make it to nationals.
And I knew that when I got there I would see Oikawa Tooru, the grand king of the court. The name seemed to spread around these things like wildfire as much as his good looks did. And I was actually excited to see him, even if it was in front of everyone.
When I arrived a lot of pairs of eyes were on me. I did my best to ignore them by keeping my posture composed, my back straight and my shoulders pulled back. I kept my chin high as I made my way to the locker area to lock up my backpack.
