That night was a long one for Elsa. The hospital was kind of eery with the darkness outside. Her room, though fairly small, felt extra big when she was alone. She tossed and turned, which didn't make her arm hurt any less. She couldn't tell if she was hot or cold, so the sheet was kicked off and pulled back on. It was at least 2 in the morning, and any sleep had deprived Elsa.
Eventually, she got up and went to the bathroom. She looked at herself in the mirror. Her hair was in a messy bun from yesterday. She pulled it out and now a loose braid lay on her shoulder. It was messy and her bangs were all over the place, but it was comfy.
Her family had gone home after reassuring them she'd be fine over 7 times. She almost wished she hadn't.
The halls were lit up but there was no body around. The waiting room was just up ahead, though it sounded like no one was around for miles.
Elsa went in anyways, maybe the lady at the office had some melatonin or something. The room was empty. She just reached the desk when she heard breathing. She turned to see a figure sitting in a chair in the corner.
The hood of his oversized blue hoodie covered his hair and most of his face. He was leaning on his arm and sleeping upright. His tan cargo shorts showed his very skinny, white legs.
"Jack?"
The boy moved, but didn't look at her. She went to tap on his shoulder. He sat up stalk straight and looked straight at Elsa. "Elsa! You're up? What time is it?"
"2:15."
"Oh."
"What are you doing here? I thought you left."
"I did, but halfway home, I turned around and came back."
"Why?" Elsa sat next to him.
"Because I wanted to make sure you were alright." He reached for her hand, which she gave to him.
His words were so sweet. It melted Elsa's heart.
"It's just a broken wrist. I'm fine. But thank you for coming."
"Couldn't sleep?"
"Yeah."
"I wasn't all that comfortable either."
"Really? That chair looks very luxurious," Elsa joked.
"Ha! Trust me, it's way worse than it looks."
There was a moment of silence. Elsa suddenly realized her hand was still in his. Her cheeks started turning a faint pink, though she hoped he couldn't tell.

Jack sat with her in silence. It was nice. He peeked over at her. She looked flushed. He couldn't tell why, until he saw her steal glances at their hands. He forgot he was even holding hers. He didn't mind, it felt nice. Then the question that had been flooding his mind since he left the hospital came crashing back. He looked at her. She noticed and watched him expectantly. He had to say something now.
"You look beautiful," that's the first thing that popped into his head, but he meant every word. Her cheeks turned a darker shade of pink.
"Thank you. I'm glad you like the messy braid and clothes from yesterday." She smiled as she gestured to the light blue long sleeve top and almost knee length skater skirt.
"Yup!"
"And you look pleasant as well." She commented.
"Heh, well," he ran a hand through his sloppy hair, "I try."
"I see."
Another pause.
"Elsa," Jack said louder than he wanted it. He stood and came around in front of her.
"Yeah?"
"I know this isn't the best place or the best time. I mean, 2:30 at night in a hospital isn't the... best place, I mean... But I wanted to know, well, I wanted to ask..."
Elsa sat up, eyes wide.
"Will you, maybe uh, consider going out with me? I don't know why, but the question has been haunting me for ever and I just had to ask you..." He slightly cringed for fear of being rejected.
She smiled wider than he had seen her before. He took that as a good sign.
"Yes." She said.
Jack nearly jumped out of his shoes.
"Was that a yes I heard?"
Elsa shrugged, "I hope so."
Elsa stood and they both hugged. They both felt at peace. It was the most relaxing moment they'd had in a while.
❄❄❄
Elsa was able to go home in the morning. Jack had spent the night in the chair in Elsa's hospital room, so at least it didn't feel so big. They talked most of the night though, and didn't get to sleep until around 5 in the morning.
Elsa's parents came to pick her up around 8. Jack was still there, but he was out of the room when they came in. He had gone to get some breakfast for both of them. When he came back, Elsa's parents looked unsettled. But, being the gentleman and woman they were, greeted him kindly and thanked him for bringing breakfast. Elsa invited him to dinner, but, mostly because of the looks her parents gave him, he declined. He told her he needed to get home and clean up, which was true.
Elsa's dad picked up her few things and carried them to the car. Her mother went to inquire about medicine and other things that would help Elsa heal.
Elsa and Jack walked out to the car.
"Hey, I want to thank you again for, you know, being here," Elsa said.
Jack grinned back and put his arm around her shoulder.
"Anything for my girlfriend."
"Hmm." Elsa thought.
"What?"
"It's strange, being called someone's girlfriend."
"Don't tell me you've never-" her small smile said it all. "I'm surprised, Elsa. You're way too pretty to have never been asked out."
"Thanks, I guess. What about you? Any ex girlfriends I should know about?"
"Just one."
"And she is?"
"Are you jealous of her already?" Jack grinned widely as he looked down at Elsa.
"No, just curious."
"Ah, well, I dated my friend Tooth as a Freshman, but we both agreed friends was better."
"Do you still talk?"
"Absolutely. She's one of my best friends I couldn't have survived high school without."
"Why haven't you ever mentioned her before?"
Jack shrugged. "I don't know. The same reason you don't tell me about yours."
"I'd like to meet your friends."
"And I would like to meet yours."
Elsa looked uncomfortable. "Well, there's not too many to meet. There's Olaf and Anna and, well, Kristoff is nice enough."
"Kristoff?"
"My sister's boyfriend."
"So you have three friends. One is your sister and another is her boyfriend."
"4, actually."
"And who is that?"
"You."
