Everyone sat down at the table. Jack's mother had left, though Elsa's parents offered her a seat at the table. She refused, knowing how much Jack had wanted her to. This wasn't to be taken the wrong way, Jack loves his mother more than anyone, but she had a tendency to tell life stories. Jack's whole life would be told before the evening was over. She knew of the habit, on account of many reminders from her son, though knowing didn't always stop her.
The food was passed and the clinking of silver wear on plates was the only sound. Until Mr. Arendelle spoke.
"So, Jackson, tell us about yourself."
"Well," Jack finished taking a sip of his drink and leaned back in his chair. Elsa gave him a cautious face, which made him sit up straight again. Apparently slouching was a no no. "I work at the Ice cream parlor in Burgess. I also worked at the gas station, till I got laid off. Now I work for you."
"Is that so," Mr. Arendelle looked intrigued.
"Yes Sir. What a wonderful business you have."
Right move.
"Why thank you, young man. There are so few people that appreciate everything it takes to run an ice rink."
"I think just one night working there would get them to understand."
Wrong move.
"Are you saying our working conditions are harsh?"
"Not at all, I'm just saying that to run a successful business like your's includes more jobs and detail than one might think."
Mr. Arendelle looked flattered. "Many details are included when running any business.
The ice rink conversation ended there.
"You say you were laid off at a gas station, how can that be, when gas is so popular?" Mrs. Arendelle asked.
"A different company built a gas station down the street. They had lower prices and better deals. I suspect it won't take long for the one I worked at to go out of business."
"I see." Was the only reply.

"How long have you guys known each other," came the inevitable question later that night.
"A couple weeks before summer vacation." Elsa answered, before taking a bite.
"How?" Came the next one.
"Uh... Anna introduced us."
Anna gave Elsa a look that said why are you putting this on me? Elsa hoped the look she gave back read: sorry, please go with it, I love you! She hoped Anna understood.
"Really?" Her parents were ready for this story. "How did you know Jack, Anna?"
"Um, you know, Kristoff has a lot of buddies and he introduced me to Jack." She lied.
Elsa was thankful.

The night ended uneventful. Jack said his goodbyes and went to the door with Elsa. She stepped outside with him.
"I'm so sorry, Jack."
"What for, I had fun."
"I should have told them earlier about you and that lead to pressing questions and lies and I'm just sorry. Because I didn't mention you to them before, doesn't mean I don't care about you. They're just not around a lot and I don't tell my parents a lot. Please forgive me."
"I forgive you," Jack smirked down at her.
"Are you sure, because I've been a horrible girlfriend and I just-"
Jack kissed her.
"See you tomorrow?"
"Yeah," was Elsa's reply as Jack headed down to his car.
❄❄❄
Elsa walked back inside.
"It's nice to hear you have a boyfriend, Elsa. Especially from his mother." Her father said.
Elsa slumped her shoulders.
"Okay, I'll tell you."
"Why didn't you tell us before?" Her mother asked.
Elsa shrugged. "I don't know. I just didn't want anything to take him away from me."
"What about Mr. Isles' son? I thought there was a thing between you two," her mother said.
Elsa shook her head furiously. "No, I hate Hans."
"Don't say that! His father is a very honorable man."
"That doesn't make Hans one!"
"I'm sorry, Elsa, but what's wrong with Hans?"
"What's wrong with Jack?"
"He just doesn't seem your, I don't know, type?"
"What makes Hans my type?" Elsa used air quotes for the last word.
"He's charming, comes from a nice family, and likes you."
"He doesn't like me! He poured lake water on me a week ago!"
"Now you're being ridiculous!"
"Am I? Cause it seems to me that you're picking boyfriends for me!"
Elsa told them the whole story, excluding the drunk story, about how jack had helped her from Hans and almost everything else. She didn't know if they were listening or not though. It sure didn't seem like they were when they sent her to her room.
