"Dad?" I mumble trying to get his attention once more. "Dad! Was that,"
"Emma..." Austin placed his hand on my shoulder. I walked towards my father, who was now staring me directly in the eye.
"Dad, was that woman, who I think it was?" I ask my fists now clenching. My eyes begin to swell up with tears. Although I try to fight the tears back, one slips down my face and onto my dress. "Why was she here?!" I ask trying to control my anger.
"She wanted to see you..." he says.
"What was the point?" I cried. "She left again! There was no point for her to come here!"
"I invited her, baby, she still loves you. Just remember that." he moves to hug me but I move back.
"Emma, c'mon" Austin grabs my hand and leads me away from my father. As we walk through the crowd I try my best to keep my head down.
When we reach to my bedroom, I'm full on sobbing. Austin tries to comfort me, but nothing matters right now.
"Emma, she knew how you felt," he said rubbing large circles on my back,"She just wanted to see you, and most importantly she loves you." He held me in his arms.
"Austin?"
"Yes?"
"Did you know she was coming?"I asked, wondering why he was backing up my dad.
"Of course not,"
"Hey!" my door opens revealing Austin's mother. "Austin we need you out there."
Austin's P.O.V.
"Me?" I ask dumbfounded, "Why?"
"There's no music tonight, so I thought you could-"
"No" I snap.
I understand that this is a special night for Emma's parents but, I refuse to sing. All my songs are personal. Mostly because they're about my love life. I also don't like singing in front of large crowds either. I've done it before once when I was younger, and I thought I could be a singer, but I decided to quit. It was tough that's for sure, but with my father nagging the hell out of me, I just couldn't take the pressure.
"Austin, please"
"Even if I was going to I don't have an instrument."
"My dad has an acoustic guitar" Emma mumbles behind tears.
"Emma are you okay?" My mother asks her.
"I'm delightful,"she says chuckling,"I'm going to clean my face." Emma leaves the room, closing the door behind her.
"Austin look, I know you don't like performing as much as you used to, but your songs are wonderful, and you have an amazing voice. All I'm asking you to do is sing this one night, just for four minutes." My mother pleads, taking my hand in hers.
"Fine" I huff.
On cue, Emma walks back into the room.
"Where's the guitar?" I ask, totally not prepared to do this.
She walks over to her closet and pulls out a black acoustic guitar. I begin to tune the strings and head down the stairs. I proceed to the backyard, and stand on the little black platform, that already had a mic setup.
People begin to pile into the backyard, and before you know it all eyes were on me. My mother and Emma stood in the back giving me motivational gestures. For a moment I thought I could just walk away, but now I'm expected to do something.
The shimmering white lights gave the backyard a more romantic feel. Which means I have to select a song that fits.
I clear my throat, and begin to strum.
