Hinata sat with us at the table as we talked about what happened in Kirigakure and she told us what we missed. “The war will be starting soon.” She said gravely.
Neji held my hand tightly as I looked down at the table, the light reflected off of my engagement ring as I began to shake. “What division are we in?” Neji asked. “I don’t know yet, but we’ll probably be placed in the short range division.” She said.
He nodded as Hinata stood up. “I should be going, Father will be upset. You guys should go see the Hokage to get your new forehead protectors.” She said. We nodded and left our apartment with Hinata. We walked with her to the compound, me and her joking and teasing while Neji just smiled at us as we walked.
Once we reached the Hyuuga compound, we said our goodbyes to Hinata and made our way to the Hokage’s office. I knocked on the brick red door until a woman’s voice told us to enter the room. We stepped into the office, closing the door behind us and bowed to the blonde woman who sat at the desk.
“I see you two have made it back. How did it go?” She asked. We straightened up and explained everything from their plotted murders to Hinata telling us that we should come pick up our forehead protectors. “I see.” She said with a nod. “Here.” She handed Neji a black headband with the kanji for shinobi engraved in it and me a blue one that had the same marking. “Thank you M’lady.” I said as we bowed and left the office.
Neji and I walked home and laid down in bed. “So, the war is almost here…” I said nervously as I propped myself up on my elbow to look at him. “Yeah.” He said doing the same to look over at me. I was terrified and felt warm tears on my face. Neji reached over and wiped them away with his thumb. “Don’t cry. We’ll be ok.” He said as he took my hand and kissed it.
I sighed heavily and rested my head against his chest. He kissed the top of my head and I kissed his chest. He stiffened a bit and hummed in response. I smirked and kissed his collarbone, then his chin, then right beside his lips to tease him. He hummed irritatedly after each one. Finally I giggled and kissed him on the lips.
“Tease.” He mumbled with a sly smile. I laid back down on his chest and whispered a goodnight to him before falling asleep.
