20 Millennia Ago
I WALK DOWN THE road, blatantly ignoring all the eyes on me. Everyone in this world can't help but be drawn in by what they do not know; a mystery that they want to solve. There is one thing in this world that is a mystery to me, and that is why it appears as though my love has come back to life, but with a different name and colour, and without her memories. Neither her having a different name or having dark skin bother me, but it is looked down upon for a "white man" to be courting a "black woman". She isn't the same colour as those from other countries, but a lovely caramel colour that tells me she has had the "black" bred out from her.
The girl in her prime dashes down the street and straight into my arms, ignoring the grumbles and insults murmured under the onlooker's breaths. I glare at them and my eyes turn silver, warning them away from my love. Mei looks up at me through her obsidian hair with electrifying blue eyes, and I find myself smiling despite the pain that spikes in my heart. It has been several hundred millennia, but I still mourn Serenity, Cayden, and the children that were slaughtered that day, and nothing is ever going to change that.
"Come along home, my love," Mei beckons, tugging on my hand. "I have dinner cooking, and I've made something for you."
I grin and follow her. "Have you made me a snack?"
Mei has known what I am since the day we met, and she knows that I have to eat more than Human food in order to satisfy my hunger. She does not agree with me killing people in order to feed, so we have come to an agreement that I will feed from Humans and then erase their memories. My Wendigo and Ghoul sides are formidable and desire the flesh of Humans in order to quell their hunger, and it's something that I have struggled controlling ever since the Dread Doctors gave me them in order to make me a beast they could control. Well, they didn't manage to control me, but they have given me plenty of beasts over the decades.
Walking alongside Mei, my senses dull and I find myself feeling more Human than I have since I was a child millennia ago. She is the one that makes me feel Human after hundreds of years of bloodshed and slaughter, and, for once, I feel as though I have earned something beautiful and pure, but there is always a bloody end for someone like that. All I can do is pray to whatever God there is to keep her safe - safe from me and my horror-filled past.
