Chimera got really drunk really quickly as, after she and Escanor had finished the Iron Ale, Escanor insisted she try Earth's famous Vanya Ale. It wasn't nearly as strong as Iron Ale, so Chimera drank a lot of it and the alcohol itself snuck up on her. Escanor, on the other hand, was unaffected by the booze. Chi suspected this may have been due to his massive size, or at least the semi-coherent parts of her suspected it. She knew Escanor was in the process of drinking her under the table, but she didn't care.

It was weird to find this specific human trustworthy so quickly.

Mera had been strangely silent while Chi was drinking. Chi found the newfound privacy unnerving, but also found herself tempted to drink more during her day controlling the body. She wouldn't dare drink and keep drinking to remain the twin in charge, but part of her wondered if she could do so.

Chimera slipped off her barstool and onto the floor with a slight thump and fell asleep. Escanor saw her fall and moved to catch her but missed by a hair. He checked to make sure Chimera wasn't hurt, then with a sigh, he lifted his strange-looking drinking buddy from another world and carried her into a room off to the side of the bar where, counting his own, seven beds lay in wait. He suspected the owners of the other six beds wouldn't be around that day, night, or any time in the near future. He set his strange new friend down in the bed meant for Gowther.

While Chimera was asleep, Escanor cleaned up. It had been years since he'd had company and he'd begun to lose hope that his old comrades would find him again. The alien wasn't one of his old comrades, of course, but maybe she had heard something.

Something about the Seven Deadly Sins.

He washed the glasses.

Something about his friends.

He swept the floor and put things away.

Something about Lady Merlin.

Oh, how he missed Lady Merlin.

His one true equal, no, better than him said the voice of his weaker half.

He smiled. Night would fall, soon, and when it did his only strength would be his love for someone he could never hope to be with.

And if Chimera had been awake, unbeknownst to Escanor, if she had been able to read his thoughts, she might draw a comparison between him and the scorched moon of home.
