As Chi and Escanor left the cave to rescue Mera, they spotted something in the distance. A green blob of fast-moving vines was heading straight for them. Chi drew her twin daggers, hoping it was Gloxinia. If he had harmed her twin sister, she'd make him suffer for it. Escanor stood beside her. Though the day was dark, it must have been nearing one in the afternoon. Escanor saw Chi's apprehension and readied his axe.

The vines landed right in front of Chi and opened up to reveal Gloxinia and... what was Shu'tar doing here? He stepped away from the vines and towards her. Chi sheathed her daggers. She doubted that Shu'tar held any fondness towards the fairy who had brought him to her. Escanor lowered his weapon when he saw that Chi had put hers away.

Shu'tar kissed Chi and kissed her hard.

Chi allowed it but did not reciprocate.

"Did you miss me, general?" Chi purred.

While Mera usually tended to be the artistic one, Chi took great pride in her acting skills. Was Shu'tar fun to fool around with every so often? Yes. Chi couldn't deny that. The man's endurance in the bedroom was incredible and his body? Even more so. And yet, for all that prowess both physical and sexual, Shu'tar had a flaw that made Chi a little reluctant to go through with the marriage and it wasn't her sister's paranoia.

Shu'tar had very little in the way of a personality.

Unless being condescending and racist towards aliens counted as a personality.

She'd seen how Shu'tar had openly mocked the sea-dwelling citizens of Europa among his officers for not having eyes and Chi had been disgusted. She'd brought it up with him and he swore he'd do better. He'd lied about that as, the next day when the Titanese came for a conference he again conferred with his officers and mocked the aliens for their tentacles and their ways of gesticulating with them.

Chi hated to admit it, but if she was going to be queen and a warrior, she'd have to be a hardass and probably stop drinking which means that Shu'tar would need to become the diplomat. Chi didn't see any way for Shu'tar to do that, but it was customary for a Martian queen's first husband to be a general.

Escanor was a warrior.

Escanor could be both a hardass and a diplomat.

Escanor had accepted her appearance without so much as a second thought, surely the denizens of the moons of the gas giants wouldn't seem so strange to someone so tolerant.

Chi had a decision to make and she'd need to make it quick.

A Martian or an alien.

A husband or her sister.

Before she could make her choice, Zeldris landed and nearly knocked Shu'tar over.

Mera.

Mera was alive and with Zeldris.

Chi embraced her twin, and suddenly nothing else mattered.
