Meanwhile, Mera found herself sobbing into one of Basquias' vines. She thought being in the air again would be okay but Gloxinia wasn't Zeldris and, even though it would have been much easier for Zeldris to drop her, she was more worried about being dropped by Gloxinia's spirit spear. But what could she do? She wanted to be by her sister's side but she was a thousand feet in the air and the only thing keeping her from plummeting to the ground and to her death was Gloxinia being in a semi-non-murderous mood.

So she cried.

And tried to keep quiet as she possibly could.

The fairy had cut her in half, ripped her twin's soul out of their shared body and patched up the halves with bits of the plant that was now carrying Mera back to the Commandments.

She didn't even know if Chi had made it through this experiment alive.

Lunar twins were a once-in-a-thousand-years kind of rarity.

A set had never been taken apart before.

Or if they had, there was no clear record of it.

After all, the twin moons' origin story was just a myth, right?

If Mera made it back home, how would she explain this to her mother?

Oh, hi Mom, it's just Mera now, Chi's soul got ripped out of her body by someone I thought was my friend.

Yeah.

That would go over well.

And besides, everyone at home wanted Chi to be queen.

She was the leader.

The military strategist.

The warrior.

Mars needed her a lot more than they needed Mera.

A botanist.

An environmentalist.

An over-trusting and gentle soul who craved friendship so desperately she literally let it tear her apart.

And then they were falling.

Vines wrapped around Mera and Gloxinia, forming a cocoon.

"If you're going to blame someone, blame me. Don't blame yourself," said Gloxinia.

"I... Sorry, I don't want to seem ungrateful it's just..."

He nodded, "it's uncharted territory. You and Chi were the first lunar twins this millennium and as far as you know this kind of twin has never been separated. It's never been attempted. Give yourself some time to adjust."

The falling slowed and the cocoon opened a bit to reveal a huge white parachute-like flower. They floated gently to the ground.

Zeldris was waiting for them.
