"At worst I imagine it would be similar to someone ripping out one or more of my hearts. A soul is a part of you so it's possible the surviving soul would live the rest of her life knowing something was missing."
She floated away without another word.
"Did she just threaten us?"
"You can take it up with her tomorrow, Chi."
"Oh, I'll do more than take it up with her. Did you bring our sword?"
"I brought the dagger."
"Good enough."
"Let's not kill Zeldris' comrades if we can avoid it."
"Melascula tried to eat our souls and threatened to do it again and you're telling me to wait until she does?"
"Zeldris might kill her if she tries again."
"I doubt it."
"Well, how will he react if we kill one of his comrades? We're practically strangers."
"We are strangers."
Basquias set Chimera down beside Zeldris who had concluded his discussion with Fraudrin. He ordered the Ten Commandments to spread out across the territory and find out where the Seven Deadly Sins were.
The orders were ones that Chi agreed with. Simple. To the point. Split up in teams of two. Do not engage. Recon only. Chi didn't trust Zeldris, but she could certainly appreciate a good strategy. Melascula and Galand left quickly. Good. Chi could follow them and kill Melascula without worrying about Zeldris seeing. That would make Mera happy, anyway. As for Galand, well, he had led Melascula to Chimera so he needed to die, too. Galand's death would be more of a formality, though. Chi knew she couldn't leave a witness to report back to Zeldris.
Mera watched as Derieri and Monspeet, who had kept their distance, left. Gloxinia and Droll teamed up. Basquias waved as it left with Gloxinia. Grayroad chose to stay behind with Estarossa and guard the base. Chimera suspected that Grayroad was somewhat similar to herself and as she looked into Grayroad's many faces, she noticed that each was slightly different. Grayroad moved off to the side, seeming to be locked in the kind of introspective conversation that Chimera found herself in nearly constantly. Zeldris, who seemed to prefer to work alone, sent Fraudrin off on his own. Once Fraudrin was gone, Zeldris sat down on a wave of dark stone and Chimera joined him. Mera thought about asking Zeldris if he wanted to do a memory ceremony with her but wasn't quite sure how to explain it. As it turned out, she didn't have to worry about asking.
"Can you tell me more about your planet?" Zeldris asked.
"There's an easier way. We call it a Memory Ceremony. It's a ritual where each party can share their entire life's memories. If you want we could try..."
"So we'd be able to see each other's memories."
"Yes. It will be as if you had actually been to my planet."
"Let's do it."
