Part of Chimera missed her home world. This other planet, while exciting, was so different from her own. That night she watched the moon rising and missed the twin moons of home. She'd examined the local fauna with the fervent interest of a proper botanist, even though that wasn't one of her career options. Perhaps a hobby, or so her people said. Still, something about the many shades of green made her think that the purple foliage of most of the plants in her world lacked a certain mystique that the Earth plants were happy to provide.

She avoided humans now, though at first she'd been more than happy to try and interact with them and speak their language, now their eyes widened more often with fear and hate than with curiosity when she passed and whispers of "demon" and "monster" filled her ears. As her giant reflective silver eyes stared at the single white moon, she leaned on a tree and pressed her palms into the rough bark. She let a wave of the weird green Earth energy was over her. All the energy here was green. She could pick out shades of red and purple like the best of her people but everyone and everything on the planet had a shade of green energy. She sighed, telling herself that it only seemed that way because she was from Mars. Maybe the grey of her energy looked turquoise or orange to the people of Earth.

A nearby tree fell without warning with a sickening crunch and the stench of brimstone. Figuring there was a good chance the tree wouldn't be hit twice, and noticing a powerful green energy coming from the wreckage, Chimera moved cautiously over to it to investigate. She stifled a gasp at the sight of a bruised and bloodied young man. He grunted in pain and tried to get up.

"You're hurt," she said, sliding down into the crater. He looked over at her, his neck letting out a nasty crack as he did so.

"What?"

The young man may have a concussion, Chimera thought as she knelt beside him.

"It's okay. Lie still while I heal you."

He obeyed, but the wariness in his dark eyes suggested that he wouldn't have if he were in any shape to move. Her hands glowed violet as she placed them gently on his forehead and his chest feeling the beat of not three hearts, like most of her people had, or six like she had, but seven. How odd. She suppressed the thought and focused on his injuries, the violet of her hands turned to blinding white as his wounds closed and his bruises faded. When Chimera finished healing the young man, she looked again at his face and discovered that he had fallen asleep. He seemed almost peaceful. He had a dark mark over his left eye. Chimera blinked and it faded away into his skin, almost as if it hadn't been there in the first place. She was of two minds.

"I don't like this."

"Nonsense, he needs our help."

"No. I don't like being here. We should go home."

"If we go home, we'll never know what's out there and what our options are."

"Warrior, wife... queen. What more do we need?"

"I want to see what's out there before we settle down back on Mars. We can go back later."

"I don't like being this far from home. You know the old stories. Do you really want us to be named for the burnt moon instead of the bright one?"

"That's not going to happen... I should be paying attention him right now, he needs me."

His breathing had improved significantly before he woke up. Chimera smiled, her six hearts thudding in her chest as her profound silver eyes locked his eyes which, like his energy were green. But wait, weren't they black before? She supposed it could have been a pain reaction, possibly an enlarged pupil. And she had been more interested in healing him. Maybe it was a trick of the light. Regardless of the colour, those eyes still held wariness in them.
