Meanwhile, Chi and Shu'tar made their way back to Escanor, whose temperature and size had drastically decreased as the afternoon progressed. Gloxinia was waiting with him and talking about beer.
Shu'tar had seen Chi flirt dozens of times. He knew what to recognize and that was exactly what he saw whenever Chi was around the rapidly shrinking human. The human seemed flattered, but didn't really reciprocate. Or, at least, the smaller version of him didn't. And the larger version seemed to think he was a god, so why shouldn't one of the crown princesses of an entire planet flirt with him? Shu'tar didn't like it. He understood that he was only supposed to be one of what could possibly be many of the queen's future husbands, but he wanted to be king. And because he wanted to be king, he couldn't have any possible competition when his wife's "accident" eventually happened.
Gloxinia scowled at the Martian general. He'd seen the memory ceremony between Zeldris and Chimera, but he'd thought Mera had exaggerated what she'd overheard. Having listened to the general's mind, Gloxinia was more inclined to believe Mera and because he believed Mera, he knew he needed to stop Shu'tar from possibly killing the twins. How was he going to keep Shu'tar from killing the twins? He had two options and both were equally simple.
Option One: Gloxinia could kill Shu'tar himself and make it look like an accident so as to not cause an interplanetary incident and, if he was caught, he could use his own diplomatic immunity as Fairy King as well as his alliance with the Demon Race to keep himself and the Earth from punishment.
Or Option Two: He could tell Zeldris about Shu'tar's thoughts and Zeldris, with his diplomatic immunity as the Demon King's representative, could handle it without bringing any kind of horrifying punishment back with him to Earth.
Or did Zeldris already know? Of course he'd seen the memory, but had he had time to reflect on it? Gloxinia didn't know but he intended to find out. He glanced back over at the "happy couple." Shu'tar was mulling over how it mark "his territory" in front of Escanor. Since Escanor was around and Shu'tar was unmarried, Gloxinia figured Chi would be relatively safe. Shu'tar dipped Chi and kissed her deeply, Gloxinia could feel her lack of love towards the general as he wandered over to Zeldris and Mera who were kissing.
Love.
He could sense the love between them.
Or maybe fondness?
He hated to interrupt, but the possibility of impending regicide seemed more important than any sweet romantic moment. He waited for them to break their kiss and stepped towards them.
"Is this a bad time?" he asked.
Holy shit, he'd forgotten how terrifying Zeldris' death glare was.
