Zeldris brought Chimera to the area where the others were and laid her down on a wave of stone, resting her head on his lap. If he was going to repay her kindness, he wanted to make sure that he protected her from one of his enemies instead of one of his comrades. He berated Galand and Melascula for going after Chimera without a reason and filled the others in on his interaction with Meliodas.
It hadn't been planned, but going up against Meliodas when he didn't have the other Sins to hide behind seemed like a smart move. It was rare to find Meliodas alone, and Zeldris wasn't about to pass up an opportunity to end things then and there. He warned the other Commandments that Meliodas had gotten stronger and was not to be underestimated.
Zeldris wasn't overly fond of his position at that moment. On the one hand, his brother's reluctance to kill meant that Zeldris probably would have survived the encounter without help. On the other hand, it was rare to find someone who would put themself in danger to help a complete stranger. Part of him wondered whether or not the humans had given Mera a reason to help him. If the humans ran from him, someone who looked like them, then surely Chimera's alien appearance would cause hostility. Were her people really as kind as her?
The other soul, Chi, didn't seem to trust him. While Mera's soul had allowed him to hold her with no trouble, Chi's soul had been more difficult. Chimera stirred and Zeldris wasn't sure which soul would be in control when she woke up. He wondered if there was a way to separate them. He supposed he could cut them in half and replace the missing halves with darkness, but doing so might make Mera distrust him. It didn't make sense to lose an ally or make that ally's twin distrust him more than she already did. Doing that could cause Chi to convince Mera that Zeldris was untrustworthy.
This was a setback, and one his father wouldn't be happy about, but Zeldris had a few questions for Chimera. He knew better than to let his curiosity get the better of him, but he found himself intrigued by the mention of legends and history on a planet that was nothing like his own. Maybe he could convince the Demon King to allow a diplomatic mission to Mars after Earth had been taken over. One thing at a time.
