Before Ban could respond, Meliodas signaled to him that it was time to leave. He stared at the alien for a moment before saying "see you around" and following Meliodas back to the Boar Hat.
The late afternoon sun shone brightly as Chi and Mera landed back on the mountain. Zeldris seemed to want a bit of privacy with Mera, so Chi took Shu'tar elsewhere. She winked at the demon as she left. If he was going to do what Chi thought he was going to do, she approved. Her sweet sister didn't have nearly as much experience with men, and Zeldris seemed like a good place to start so she ushered the betrothed she shared with her sister out of eyesight and earshot.
Once they were alone, Zeldris took Mera's hand in his and guided her to a rock. She sat and, upon Zeldris' instruction, covered her eyes. Zeldris went to get the jug with the water lilies. Mera was about to uncover her eyes when she heard the footsteps announcing his return, but Zeldris stopped her.
"Don't look just yet. Smell it first."
Mera inhaled deeply and a gentle smile broke out across her face. She opened her eyes slowly. The only thing between her face and Zeldris' was the flowers of the fragrant water lilies. Zeldris lowered the flowers and Mera leaned in closer.
Mera knew she shouldn't want to kiss him as much as she wanted to. She knew that Zeldris wanted to revive Gelda, his love, and become the demon king. It wouldn't be fair to kiss him when his life was meant to be lived on Earth.
But before Mera could think of any more of what she was sure were the numerous reasons not to kiss Zeldris, he kissed her and suddenly none of those reasons mattered. Without breaking the kiss, he set down the flowers and stepped over them so he could pull Mera closer. He sat beside Mera on the rock and pulled her into his lap so he could kiss her harder. Mera returned his passion with equal ferocity and wrapped her arms around his neck. Zeldris wove his fingers through Mera's hair and kissed even deeper and when he pulled away, Mera found herself short of breath and even redder than she normally was. She was about to kiss him when Gloxinia returned.
"Is this a bad time?" the fairy asked.
Zeldris stared at his comrade as if to say that it was absolutely the worst possible time to intrude, but Gloxinia either didn't take the hint or willfully ignored it.
