Mera sat up immediately after waking up.

"Chi?"

"CHI?!"

She held her head in her hands for some time before the sight of another red body caught her eye. She scrambled over to it. It was her body, or so she thought. She stared down at her hands and touched the cheek of the still unconscious form.

"Chi?" she whispered.

The other stirred and let out a low moan of pain.

Mera turned back to Gloxinia.

"What did you do?" she demanded.

"That's an awfully rude way to thank someone for giving you your own body. One you can control all day, every day."

"What?"

"I split your original body in half, used bits of Basquias to turn each half into a whole, and healed you both. Now Chi can go home and you can stay, if you want."

"I..."

"Come on, you've thought about what it would be like not to have a twin in your head second-guessing you. Why not take the opportunity to enjoy it?"

"I'm not leaving her like this."

"But your friend, the scrawny guy in the mountain, he can look after her. Isn't this what you've always wanted? To be free of responsibility? Do do whatever you please with reckless abandon?"

"How could you do this without asking us first? What if we had died? Or worse, what if I'm the only one of us who pulls through?"

Mera tensed as Gloxinia put a hand on her shoulder.

"Do you think I would have tried to separate you if I wasn't sure this would work? I might not be friends with your twin, but I like you. You care about the Earth more than any human or demon or goddess that lives on this planet. Don't you want to learn more? Take that knowledge and help your people?"

"I..."

"Think about it... while I get us out of here."

And in a split second, Basquias had wound itself around Mera's waist and propelled her and Gloxinia into the air away from the mountain.

Away from Chi.

Mera cried out, but no one heard her calling.
