*Modern AU*
*Klaus' POV*
I was starting at a whole new school. It was a fairly nice school from what I've seen of it. I have gotten information on what we've been doing in class recently and it seemed easy enough. I haven't met a single student, so I wasn't sure about my peers. I adjusted my glasses as my sister, Violet, dropped me off at my classroom. She said she was right across the hall if I needed anything. I was worried that I might not make friends, or worse, get picked on. I was told this school doesn't have a tolerance for bullying, but most staff members don't do much when they witness bullying. I stepped into the classroom after knocking."Ah yes, Klaus Baudelaire. I'm your teacher, Mrs. Leznevitch. You can sit down at the free seat at that table." She said enthusiastically, gesturing to a table across the room. There were two boys and two girls. "Hi, I'm Klaus." I introduced myself.
"I'm Lauree," the first girl said, adjusting her gray and blue rimmed glasses. Her eyes were a steely blue and her chocolate brown hair was tied into a ponytail. She was wearing a yellow shirt and a skirt with Starry Night by Van Gogh printed onto it, with black leggings underneath. I shook her hand.
"Mickey's the name!" Mickey said to me. He had dark eyes framed by black rimmed glasses and a head of curly hair just as black. He was wearing a sweater with black birds all over it and blue jeans. I shook his hand as well.
"I'm Ryan..." The second boy said shyly. Ryan had shaggy brown hair which fell over his eyes. I couldn't tell what color they were because of this. He was wearing jeans and an oversized hoodie. I shook his hand.
These three kids seemed intelligent and close knit. I could tell Lauree was very kind and wacky. Mickey seemed quiet but also probably just as wacky as Lauree. Ryan seemed like the kind of person who was only really themselves around their close friends. I turned to the last girl and my heart skipped a beat. She was so pretty. "I'm Isadora!" She introduced herself. Her pale face was decorated with big green eyes, a warm smile, and lots of freckles. Isadora's long brown hair draped over a maroon shirt with the words "I'm silently correcting your grammar." printed onto it. This was tucked into a pair of light blue jeans, embroidered with white flowers. Isadora. What a lovely name...
"It's nice to meet you all. Isadora, do you mind me asking what it says on your necklace?" I said. She was wearing a necklace, but I couldn't quite tell what it said.
"Um... It's something that my parents said a friend of theirs used to say... 'It is likely I will did next to a pile of books I was meaning to read.'"
" That's a peculiar quote... " I replied.
"Well, I'm a peculiar girl." She joked. The two of us smiled at eachother for a moment. "Alright, Klaus and Isadora, we have a slideshow to work on, so stop gawking at eachother!" Lauree giggled, making the two of us blush awfully. Mickey said he would invite me to the PowerPoint presentation when I got my computer set up. I asked Mrs. Leznevitch to help me set up my computer, but she said Ryan could help me since he was good with computers. He confirmed this and helped me set up my e-mail for school. I was surprised to see that I was familiar with the topic of the slideshow. "Ogden Nash?" I wondered aloud.
"Yes," Isadora said, "I made these weebs read all of his work! I already have. I write couplets all of the time." This was very intriguing. I had never met a poet in person, but I guess I was very lucky to have the first one be so pretty. "I would love to see some of your work," I replied. She smiled sweetly and invited me to sit with them at lunch. "We sit with my brothers, Duncan and Quigley. Quigley's girlfriend, Fiona, also sits with us. Duncan promised that we would get to meet his girlfriend today as well." She explained.
I declined the offer, since I already promised Violet I would sit with her and her boyfriend that she suddenly had. I wasn't told his name or anything about him except that they had been dating for about two months. I really wish I could sit next to Isadora, though.

Violet and I met up in the hallway so she could explain a bit about her friend group. "So there's my boyfriend and his two siblings. His brother had a girlfriend and I think his sister is in your class. She's single, so thank goodness for you..." I blushed at her comment as she continued. "Then there are the "what the fuck" triplets."
"Why are they called the what the fuck triplets?"
" Because they are so weird that you can't help but say what the fuck when something comes out of their mouths. "I nodded, signaling I wanted to stop this conversation because it was odd. Violet got the memo. "I suggest the lasagna," she said instead. I took her advice as she led me to her table. I was surprised who I was there. Lauree, Mickey, Ryan, and Isadora. "This is a coincidence!" I exclaimed, "I assume you three are the What The Fuck triplets?" I asked Lauree, Mickey and Ryan. They nodded enthusiastically as I sat next to Isadora.
"Klaus, this is Duncan, my boyfriend." Violet introduced me to a boy with pale skin, big green eyes, and well groomed hair.
"It's nice to meet you. Your sister thinks very highly of you, Klaus." Duncan greeted me as I shook his hand. I couldn't believe I had met my sister's friends without knowing they even knew her. Small world! Duncan seemed like a good enough guy, although I only learned a small bit about him. Him, Isadora, and their brother by the name of Quigley are triplets, which didn't surprise me a bit, considering how similar they looked. Duncan wanted to be a journalist and Quigley aspired to be a cartographer. They were both very kind to the people at the table, especially their respective girlfriends. Violet seemed very happy with Duncan, which made me happy to see. I jumped slightly as I felt a hand intertwine with mine. I looked at Isadora, who was paying attention to the conversation, blush gracing her freckled cheeks. Her hand pulled out of mine, leaving what felt like a slip of paper.I quietly unfolded the paper in my lap.
'I know we just met; But you're probably the cutest guy I could ever get.'
I blushed deep red as I wrote out a reply in this couplet language.
'That's a lie; Because you're sweeter than Apple pie.'
I gave the piece of paper back to her in the same way she gave it to me. The only person that seemed to notice the exchange was Lauree. She looked like she was about to squeal at the top of her lungs. I gave her a look that essentially said "You tell them and we're probably all dead." She gave me a look that said "You two would be adorable together!" I gave her a look that said "Isadora and I met this morning!" She gave me a look that said that she didn't care and ships it anyway. Isadora snuck the paper back into my possession and I read the new couplet.
'You're too kind; Please ask me out before I change my mind!!!'
I didn't know how to respond. I thought Isadora was a wonderful person, from what I have gathered already, but we just met and I didn't want to rush into anything, especially since it was my first day. She was a great girl, but I felt like it would be better to take it one day at a time. I tried to make that rhyme.
'You like me and I like you; But we should see how we feel in a day or two.'
'I sort of agree; but I can't stop thinking about you and me.'
'You're a wonderful woman; but please try to stop if you can'
'I'm not heartbroken, although those can heal; Sorry if uncomfortable is what you feel.'
'It's all right; You don't see me putting up a big fight.'
'In the near future, we'll make quite a pair; You're pretty special, Klaus Baudelaire.'
'In the near future, we shall see; If this will work, this you and me.'We left it at that, for there was nothing else to say in our little couplet language...
