*Violet's POV*

On a day that started relatively normal, I got a Volunteer Factual Dispatch telling me to meet F.D. and I.Q. at the Hotel Denouement. Who was F.D.? Who's I.Q.? I guess I'd find out there...

I packed a small bag of the essentials in case this was an overnight mission with F.D. and I.Q.

"I'm heading out, Klaus." I called into the house before leaving. My siblings didn't know I am a Volunteer and they aren't going to find out.

It's for their own good.

I arrived at the Hotel Denouement and checked in. "Violet Baudelaire. I'd like to check in, please."
" Ah yes, Ms. Baudelaire. You have a room booked. Here's your key. " The concierge said, handing me a shiny gold key with the room number on it. I thanked her and went on my way. When I reached my room, I unlocked the door and walked in. It was quite nice. There was a simple bathroom, a tv, one bed, a closet, and a couple bookshelves. But there was also a kitchen with two people sitting at a table. A man and a girl. The man wore a nametag that said: DENOUEMENT. MANAGER.

And the girl looked maybe a year younger than me. Bright green eyes, blonde hair with brown roots (clearly dyed blonde) and it hung over one eye, and lots of freckles. She seemed vaguely familiar, but I couldn't quite place it.

"It's great to see you made it, Ms. Baudelaire. We'd hate for our brilliant inventor to not arrive," The manager said, "I'm Frank Denouement."

F.D. Duh! Frank! Then the girl must be I.Q. "Well, hello, Frank. How's your brother?"
" Still evil. "
"As figured." I turned my attention to the girl. "Hi, I'm Violet Baudelaire. Have we met?"

She frowned as if I had said something wrong. "I guess you don't recognize me without my notebook and Klaus fawning over me."

Izzie? "Izzie!" I exclaimed, wrapping her into a hug, "We thought you'd been killed by the Great Unknown!"
" My brothers and I escaped! Well, mostly unharmed... " She pulled aside her hair and showed me a scar across her face, a little under her eye.
"Oh my God are you okay? What about your brothers?"
" I was in the hospital for a month. Duncan got a bad scar on his chest and Quigley got the worst of it. He's recovering from a coma. We wish we could be there for him right now..." I frowned. They were in a pretty bad scrap, huh?
"Oh my God. I'm so sorry."

She shook her head as if she didn't want to force the pain upon herself. "What's our assignment, Frank?" She asked, wiping a tear from her face.

"We have some sinister people around this hotel and we thought you three would be great for the task of scoping them out. Report back to me if you spot suspicious activity. We've been told there is a plot going down at the cocktail party on Friday night.

" Furthermore, if we succeed, there will be another badge added to your files. There's another sample of Medusoid Mycelium that a certain mycologist wants to pick up and it's been strategically hidden. If the sample is discovered before she picks it up, the cocktail party will be doomed. Say you'll volunteer. "

I looked at Isadora. And she looked back at me. We had questions.
"Who's the third party? You said three and there's only two of us." I asked.
"Ms. Quagmire's brother is here as well. You'll see him around the hotel, and if not, at the cocktail party." Frank answered.

"Who's the mycologist picking up the sample?" Isadora questioned.
"A submarine captain. Fiona Widdershins."

My old friend, Fiona! She saved my sister's life!
