Raindrops crashing on her windowsill

Giving rhythm to a night painfully still

Music when thoughts turn violent

Giving sound while she's hurting yet silent

Words on a page of a poem or a book

Giving life to the one that they took

There are so many escapes that she depends on

But what can she do when they're all gone

When the rain stops and the night falls still again

She's left alone in the places she's been

When the final note is over and there are no songs left

And the thoughts return from their temporary theft

When every word has been read

She can no longer run when she's trapped in her head

No escapes left, nowhere left to run

Midnight chimes but the deed is done

Her heart that once beat like a steady drum

Now falls silent, she forced her death to come
