"If you really want to listen, you might want to sit down. It's a longer story than you'd think."
You pulled two chairs from the wall and positioned them across from each other, like a two-person table at a restaurant. As a person, you were definitely a listener. It was partially due to your psychological talent. People would always come to you with their problems, and you could generally give good insight. It was always like you were some sort of communal counselor. You were ready to listen to anything Hoseok had to say, especially since it would aid you in accomplishing your goal– which was the entire reason you were hired at all in the first place.
"I'm ready," you stated, sitting down and gesturing for him to do the same. Hoseok pushed out a slight huff of air through his nose, and then plopped himself down into the seat across from you. He looked at you for a second with purses lips and crossed arms.
"I'm an idol," the man finally started, looking away from you. "Being an idol comes with haters; that's a given. I was generally a pretty strong person, so stuff usually didn't get to me. I had some bad times of course, but over all I was able to look past it and not let it really drag me down."
You nodded along, encouraging him to continue. Hoseok sighed and ran a hand through his hair before continuing.
"I love our fans a lot, as any good idol should. There are always a few out there that we can genuinely converse with, even if it's only for a few minutes at fan signs and such. But there was one fan. She was amazing, I can easily say I was attached to her. Heh, it's been so long and yet even now her name is bitter on my tongue.
"Kim Misul. I met her at a high-touch in 2014. The second we saw each other, something clicked. It was like a scene in a movie– love at first sight is an overstatement, but it was something similar. After that time, she just kept popping up. Fan signs, variety shows, front row seats at our concerts. I ended up reaching out to her, and we started talking. Like, really talking. We would text and call each other at every open opportunity. I could tell her anything.
"When 'The Most Beautiful Moment in Life' era started, everything started getting bigger for us. BTS was starting to get real recognition and it was a pretty big deal for us. I was excited of course, and I was always telling her about it and how I felt. I don't know what happened, but for some reason Misul wasn't so supportive anymore. Maybe it was that she thought I was boasting, but I guess I'll never know.
"She got distant. Whatever I would tell her, she just didn't seem to care. Being really excited about something and knowing that the person you're telling doesn't care is painful– especially when it's someone you've really come to care for. Eventually, I kind of stopped telling her things. We talked less and less until... we didn't talk anymore."
Hoseok paused at that, running a hand through his hair. You could see the hurt on his face, and you were about to say he didn't have to continue, but he took in another breath so he could speak.
"One day, I was reading through comments. I was absolutely bored out of my mind at the time, which is the main reason why I decided to indulge in other people's opinions. There was hate and love, both of which I was used to. The hate stung a little, as usual, but there wasn't really anything special. Until I saw it. There was her username in the bottom of my screen. She had finally come back to say something. At the time, I was sure that she had just abandoned us in general– that she wasn't a fan anymore. I was so excited! It had been too long since I had heard anything from her, and I desperately wanted to know that Kim Misul was still here for us. For me. I remember, when I saw her comment my heart just dropped. This sorrow just filled my entire being, and I couldn't feel anything else.
