"Hey, what are you two doing?"
You and Jungkook turned around and saw Hoseok. His eyes flicked between the two of you, a confused yet amused expression on his face. You quickly wiped the tear off your cheek, and Jungkook smiled slightly at your dramatic response to regaining your phone. He found it funny how you acted like it was your lost child.
"Oh, uh, I lost my phone when I was bathroom-hopping, and Jungkook was accompanying me on my quest to find it," you explained hurriedly, coughing at the end of your sentence to hide whatever remained of your little tear fest.
"So... he made you... cry?" Hoseok asked slowly, his brows furrowing in confusion. You hoped he wouldn't notice your crying since you really didn't like crying in front of people, but it seemed that you weren't so lucky.
"What? I-I didn't make her cry!" Jungkook defended himself. He didn't like the way Hoseok phrased his sentence- making it sound like Jungkook had done something to make you cry. He would never want to make a girl cry, let alone one he was friends with! If he made you cry, he wouldn't know what to do with himself, he probably would never live down the guilt. It struck a nerve within him the way Hoseok seemed to accuse him, but he concealed his anger.
"Whatever, I need to get you two back to that practice room before Namjoon kills someone and Taehyung has another panic attack," Hoseok said monotonously, turning on his heel to walk back to the elevator. You and the younger male followed behind him silently.
As usual, the entire trek back to the practice room was silent. You were busy worshiping your phone, and Jungkook was still slightly pissed at what Hoseok had said.
Just the thought of making you cry nearly made Jungkook shiver. It was no secret that he wasn't good with girls as it was, but if he made one cry? Especially if it was you. For some reason, thinking about it made his heart ache in a weird way. You were special to him, in a way that was similar to the way you were special to Taehyung. In Jungkook's mind, you were doing something amazing for him. There was no way he could begin to express his gratitude to you just for trying to do your job. So in his brain, you were put on a high pedestal, like a goddess or something. Granted, he wasn't quite as unstable as Taehyung, so he wasn't as (almost unhealthily) attached, but he still felt like he owed you in some ways. Getting to know you for a few weeks, he realized that you're genuinely a good person. Somewhere inside him, he just knew that you weren't just doing this job to make some money to flaunt to your peers. He just knew that you were doing it because you actually cared. All of those factors combined were what made him care about you. Even though you were six years younger than him, he felt like you guys were friends, and at that time, a friend was something he really needed.
You finally tore your eyes away from your phone when your small party arrived at the elevator. Upon entering, you finally looked at the two boys you were traveling with. Jungkook was subtly glaring at Hoseok, with his arms crossed. He was pouting like a little kid whose parent wouldn't buy him the toy he wanted. You wondered what was wrong, but decided you would wait until later to ask.
"Wow, our periods really must be synced," you thought in recollection of his moodiness so far that day.
Next, you looked over at Hoseok. He stood silently in the corner of the elevator, leaning on the wall and staring off into what you would call "the distance" had you not been in an awfully compact space. There was a familiar look of melancholy on his face. Generally, his whole being seemed depressed. His clothes seemed to droop tiredly, mimicking the exhaustion reflected in his eyes. He was the living embodiment of traveling through rain in a desert. Barren and blank, yet seemingly infinitely miserable.
