Tiana
Tristan downed, his tenth shot of tequila. He slammed the glass down on the coffee table. Grabbing the bottle, he poured himself another drink.
"Tristan, drinking won't solve anything." Carolyn said, touching his shoulder.
"Just mind your own fucking business." He slurred. Carolyn's shoulders, slumped.
Marching over to Tristan, I snatched the bottle of vodka out of his hand.
Tristan glowered at me. "What the fuck...."
"I think you've had more than enough."
"Give me the bottle." He growled through pursed lips.
"No."
"I said, give me the fucking bottle!" He sprung up out of the chair. His gaze was menacing.
I didn't back down. Tristan would never harm me, so there is no need for me to fear him. "I said, no you've had more than enough."
"Fine, keep it. I will go in search of another bottle." He said.
"I swear to God Tristan, if you touch another bottle for the night, I will wedge my boot heel so far up your ass..."
Tristan squinted at me. "You can't tell me what to do." He hiccups. ".... you're not my mother. Also she is dead, she has been dead for twenty years...." Tristan burst out laughing. "Everyone, lies to me over and over again, as if it's nothing...."
My fingers tighten around the neck of the bottle. Guilt once again washed over me.
Tristan sat down, heavily in the couch. He sprawled out on the couch and closed his eyes. This is the first time, I am seeing him like this.
Placing the bottle on the coffee table, I knelt on the floor. Tristan turned his head to the side to look at me. "Tell me about her."
"Why? It won't bring her back."
"Getting it out might help."
"I just want to drink, until I can't see straight."
"Sorry Tristan but I can't allow you to do that."
He hiccups in response. I tucked his hair behind his ears. Tristan's eyes fluttered close. "I don't remember much... it's been so long, most of my memories are hazy. Even though she was an addict to drugs, she never once mistreated me. She was always kind..... the day i found her dead, was the day i got a high score on my math quiz. I was so excited, I practically ran all the way from school just to show her my accomplishment. But when I got home, nobody answered so I went upstairs.... water pooled at the bathroom door....." he opened his eyes. ".... so I pushed the door open and there she was... lying in the bath. Both her wrists were slit and she.... and she....." his voice broke. ".... just give me the bottle Tiana."
"Sorry but I can't do that."
"Damnit." Rolling over, he turned his back to me. Tristan pushed his face in the cushion.
My fingers caressed the back of his head.
