Believe me, my jaw just dropped when she said that. Hindi ko alam kung anong meron sakin pero bigla nalang talaga akong naexcite. I know I already trashed the idea of knowing more about her, but it seemed to be chasing me. Para bang lahat ng bagay na nangyayari eh kusang naglelead sakin para mas makilala sya lalo. Weird pero, it keeps on coming my way, and who am I to avoid it?
“seryoso ka?”

“HA.HA.HA! sya? Mahabang pasensya? You mean si Li? You mean her? Oh please!”
“questioning me again about my best friend? Seriously, Tedie, my.best.friend?” talagang inemphasize nya yung ‘MY BEST FRIEND’.
“first, it’s CEDIE. Second, hindi nga ako sigurado kung parehong tao yung tinutukoy natin”
”and so, kung holdapper pala talaga ako, which you thought I was” seemed she can’t hide that she really found that funny “You could’ve lost all your valueables now. See, dude, We are! Ok fine” kinuha naman nya yung phone nya tapos nagbrowse then may pinakita sya sakin

“is this her smile?” really, Cedie? Sinabi mo talaga yun nang ganun kalakas?

“anong quite? It’s—“ nakita ko naman syang nakatingin sakin as if alam na nya yung isasagot ko

“it’s not! It’s just like everyone else’s. So ordinary!”
“okay, then you should be giving back my phone now, if that’s so” syempre binigay ko naman.
Okay I cannot stand this anymore. Her smile’s so damn beautiful!
“do you like my best friend?”
“aren’t we here because you want to know something, and I think hindi yan yun so let’s get straight to business”
“wooops, looks like someone knows how to get out of trouble” I KNOW RIGHT! “so, how is she doing now?”
“tulad nga ng sinabi ko kanina, sya na yung pinakamasungit na taong nakilala ko. Hindi marunong mag-ayos, palaging tulog sa klase, what else? Hmmmm oh! Nambubugbog!”
“beware, nagtaekwondo sya nung 12 years old sya. She seems a whole new Kate! Hindi naman ako makapaniwalang in almost two years time, parang hindi na nya ako kilala bigla? Nagkaamnesia ba sya or something?”
“I don’t think so. She knows that her mother’s dead and Adrian’s her ex. So sa tingin ko eh hindi”
“Oh thank God! Simula nung nakita ko sya rito sa mall, iniisip ko na talaga kung bakit nya ako itatanggi, now I can’t think of other reasons anymore. Any, you mentioned Adrian? You know him too?”
“Oo, kaklase ko sya”
“You mean, they’re classmates? They transferred school together? After they break up? On the same school? Isn’t that ironic?”
“so hindi na pala sila together nung lumipat sila na school?”
“yes. Honestly, that’s the last news I’ve heard about Kate before maputol yung connection namin. It’s just weird”
“Weird?”
“yeah, akala ko kasi, kaya nagtransfer si Kate ng school eh dahil sa break up nila ni Adrian, and Adrian did the same thing as well, but I never thought that they would accidentally choose the same school”
“Ibigsabihin, yun yung reason kaya lumipat si Li ng school?”
“that’s the reason I know, wala pa ngang 1 year yung dalawa nun, nagsimulang manligaw si Adrian around half year ng first year, sinagot sya ni Kate ng July, tapos they broke up around April, summer after second year. Hindi man lang nga nabanggit ni Kate na lilipat pala sya ng school”
“and since third year, her personality changed. Feeling ko may kinalaman malamang yung break up nila?”
“No one would know unless we hear it from Kate herself”
“pero ayaw nyang may makaalam ng kahit anong tungkol sa kanya, even where she lives”
“why?”
“exactly, why?”
“I feel bad about her. Maybe epekto rin to ng pagkamatay ng mom nya. She hasn’t been okay since that tragic night.”

“so I guess you have to go home na, magagalit si mommy” pang-asar pa yung boses nya
“yeah. Let’s talk some other time. Just give me your number then I’ll contact you on my free time”
“are you asking me out on a date?” nanlaki naman yung mata ko nun “JOKE! I’m already taken!” tapos binigay naman nya yung number nya. “I really hope we’ll meet again. I have to know more about my best friend”
“sure. Pero wag mong sasabihin sa kanya na nagkita tayo, baka mabugbog ako nun, sabi nya kasi na wag daw akong makialam sa kahit na ano tungkol sa kanya”
“alright. No problem. Uhm, just one favor”
“yeah?”
“please take care of her… for me” tumango naman ako.
I will take care of her even if nobody would ask me to.
