{Chapter 17}

*1 MONTH LATER* (bc the author wants to finish this really fast)

Steve’s POV

Now that Rumlow is expelled, things have been a lot more peaceful at the university.

We’re now able to focus on studies, and figuring out what to do after graduation. And it’s coming up fast. I’ve been meeting with my counselor, and trying to get an internship this summer to help kids with disabilities. That’s my dream job, to be there for these kids that are struggling to maintain a normal lifestyle. I can relate, because I had a cousin with down’s syndrome. She sadly passed away before starting high school.

I’m currently in the courtyard with Bucky and Tony. You think this would be awkward since Tony is my sort of ex boyfriend (we had one date), but honestly he’s like a brother to me.

“Do you have a resume yet?” Tony asked and I nodded and showed him my very short resume. I really should have done more in high school. “Wow Steve, no pun intended but this is short,”

“Dammit!” Bucky exclaimed out of nowhere. We turned and saw he was on his phone. “What’s up Buck?”

“My girlfriend broke up with me,” he said nonchalant and I furrowed my brows in confusion.

He realized what he just said and chuckled, “I’m playing Episode,” and I understood. He’s been playing that game for weeks now, and already spent $50 on gems. Kind of a scam if you ask me. But he told me “Stevie, I needed a new bathing suit for a pool party”.

“Hey buckaroo, what are you planning on doing after graduation?” Tony asked and Bucky just shrugged. “I don’t know, be a youtuber or a stripper…”

I just rolled my eyes. Every time Bucky is asked about his future he answers the same way, and I know he’s just trying to cover up the fact that he’s still undecided. I know my boyfriend all too well.

“Well, that’s my queue to go. I have a study date with Bruce,” Tony said and was about to rush off when Bucky and I started yelling.

“Wait hold on! A date with Bruce?” I exclaimed. Tony just looked to the side and started blushing. “No big deal,”

Bucky laughed. “Yeah no big deal, just a study date with Bruce. Right Stevie?” he asked me teasingly. “Yeah just guys being dudes,” I added.

Tony flipped us off and left.

“USE PROTECTION!” I yelled and Bucky started laughing so hard he was turning red. We love teasing Tony about Bruce, and we know he has a crush on Tony but I’m sure the feeling is mutual. They are just too oblivious to realize it.

“Let’s get lunch, I’m starving,” Bucky said and while he packed his stuff I was still wondering if he would be willing to talk about what he wants. I bring it up and he either shuts it down by pretending he has to pee, or he just kisses me and tells me he’s fine.

Fed up, I ask “Hey Buck, can we talk?” he looks at me giving his full attention. “Yeah Stevie, you know I always appreciate our talks, our time together,”

Of course he’d be quoting destiel at a time like this.

“Seriously Buck, why do you keep avoiding the graduation topic?” I ask and his grin is replaced with a frown. He breaks eye contact, and sighs in defeat. “Nothing, I’m fine,”

I sit next to him, and grab his larger hand in my smaller one. “You know you can tell me right?” I whisper to him and he just looks at me with his sad blue green eyes.

“It’s just...my dad. He doesn't support my dream,” he said and I was completely confused now. Bucky has never mentioned his dad, let alone any family.

“I didn't know you talked to them,” I said and Bucky pulled out his phone and showed me some text messages between him and his father. “I don't,”

The messages were pretty brutal, the way Bucky's father talks to him. Not even. The way he talks down to him.

“He's coming to visit on Family Day,” I can hear the fear in Bucky's voice. I gently squeeze his hand letting him know I'm here, and he doesn't have to go through this alone. “It'll be ok Buck…”

He let go of my hand and ran it through his hair. “It's Not, it's never ok. He won't understand,”

I finally ask, “Well, what do you want to do?”

Bucky breathes out a laugh. “Remember when we first met?” He asks and I smile remembering the song he sang while playing guitar.

“Of course I do,”

“Well, that's what I want to do. Music. Play It, teach it,” he explains and I understand now. His dad doesn't think a musician is a job. Most families don't.

“I'm sure if he heard you play he'd change his mind,” I suggested. “No way, he would laugh at me,”

I feel sad now, knowing my boyfriend isn't accepted by his own father. I won't even ask if his dad knows about us because I can already hear the answer.

“Can we stop talking about this now? And go eat,” I just nod and Bucky takes my hand in his.

Seems like I have another mission on my hands…

Tony’s POV

I never really thought of Bruce in a romantic way. I mean, we are #ScienceBros. Not #ScienceBoyfriends.

But lately I've been having these feelings. I usually ignore it or think I'm just hungry. But no, it's a lot more intense than that. Bruce and I have study “dates” all the time, every Friday at 6pm.

So yeah I get why our friends say it's an actual date. Every time we're alone I get this strong urge to kiss him. And that scares me.

“Tony? Are you even listening?”

I snap out of my fantasy world and are Bruce across from me with both our advanced calculus books out and see him looking at me anticipating an answer.

“No,”

Smooth Tony.

He scoffs and shuts his book. “Let's just call it a night than,” getting up he puts his stuff in his bag and I snatch his book before he gets to it.

“Wait! I can explain,” I say and he looks unamused but gestures for me to continue.

God how do I say this? “Uh.. I've just been distracted,”

“By what?” He asks and I sigh. Why am I so fucking nervous!?

“This,” I say waving my hand around the whole table. “I don't want anymore study dates with you,”

Bruce looks hurt, and I quickly add, “I want a real date, no math involved,”

He looks at me in shock and just laughs.

“What's so funny?” I ask and he just shakes his head. “Took you long enough,” he says and I smile and hold his hand.

“So. I take that as a yes,”

“Yes times infinty,”
