Thoughts:
Well, I was going to get to this one eventually.
Amourshipping sucks.
I greatly dislike the XY anime. From a writing standpoint, it's (objectively) Bad, and Serena, Amourshipping, and Ash himself are a big reason why.
So a little girl gets lost in the woods and hurts her knee. A boy helps her; they're like five, and Serena most likely isn't even from Kanto, since they never see each other again after the summer camp.
Despite only knowing him for like five minutes (they are not childhood friends), Serena still has a crush on Ash years later, and goes on her journey solely because she saw him on TV. She follows him in order to meet up with him. Which is stalking.
As the series goes on, Serena's obsessive and one-sided crush on Ash defines her entire character, and she only got slightly better after finding a goal. In other words, she's a Satellite Love Interest. She's also a Nice Girl™ who does things for Ash in the hopes of winning points with him.
While the series acts like Serena genuinely loves Ash, she doesn't. She loves her fantasy version of Ash, and the minute Ash stop living up to her expectations, she pelts him in the face with snowballs, which is despicably selfish and borderline abusive.
Yet the fandom praises her as the "best" female companion. The reason she gets away with it is because she's white and conventionally pretty (she's waifu bait).
And on her final episode the minimal development she got gets reset as she clarifies that all along, ASH was her goal, and she says that she want to "become a more attractive woman for him". To be blunt, Serena's a whole disgusting sexist mess and if she never appears in the anime again, I won't be mad.
