Thoughts:
I think it's sweet.
I think I mentioned before that I typically play as the female protagonist, and it's cute seeing N open up to the player character and forming a sort of bond with them, especially seeing as N hasn't really opened up to humans before. Depending on the version, he represents either truth or ideals, which are two sides of the same coin, with the player character representing the other--so he and Hilda are ultimately quite both alike and quite different.
