Sucked Into Middle Earth...Just My Luck!

chapter 3

Alice's POV.

We set up camp in a reasonably flat area, aside from the scattered large rocks. I decided to stick with Karma while I watched as Boromir attempted to teach Merry and Pippin how to sword fight, understandably it wasn't going so well.

"You do know whats going to happen soon right?" asked Karma, motioning to the area. I nodded and started looking for cover ahead of time.

"Just get ready to hide as soon as you see Legolas look into the distance from that rock over there" i said, pointing to a rather flat one.

"Yep, got it. So uh, what are we going to do about Moria?" she asked and I immediately knew what she was referring to.

"If all plays out as it did in the movie we should survive" I told her with an uncertain shrug.

"Well geez, I feel so reassured" replied Karma sarcastically.

Our attention was drawn back to Boromir who had been tackled and was now being playfully attacked by Merry and Pippin. I had to admit that scene was still pretty funny. For all Boromir's shortcomings he was quite fun when he wanted to be. Both Karma and I chuckled at the spectacle and Boromir sent me a glare before stopping and straightening himself out. I merely poked my tongue out and smiled. He was about to say something about it when our cue arrived and Karma tugged on my jacket.

"Legolas just jumped on the rock!" she whispered urgently.

We both hurridley grabbed a few things so as to help the others and quickly hid in a large hollow in one of the rocks. Merry and Pippin gave us questioning glances and I silently motioned that they should do the same but they didn't quite understand.

"It's just a cloud" we heard Gimli state.

"It's moving too quickly, and against the wind!" Boromir pointed out and for the first time I realised he WAS kind of intelligent... kind of.

"HIDE!" Legolas warned suddenly and they all sprung into action grabbing the remaining items and jumping into various hiding places.

The birds of Saruman passed overhead in a screeching flurry and I covered my ears as Karma did the same. As soon as they had passed we joined the others in coming out of hiding. I straightened my clothes out and grabbed a few of the items we'd hidden, tossing them back in the general direction of their various owners.

"You knew this was coming" stated Gandalf whilst fixing us with his wise gaze.

" Well yeah, of course. Why do you think we hid as soon as you guys saw the birds?" I asked, giving a nonchalant shrug.

"Couldn't you have warned us lass?" asked Gimli.

"Well, we already knew you guys would figure it out and hide in time" Karma confessed.

"Regardless, next time please give us a hint or something" said Gandalf and we agreed.

He announced we would be going through the snow covered trail on the mountains but luckily the hobbits pleaded to at least camp here for the night before heading off. They got their wish and I was rather grateful as I was also kind of exhausted from the long hours of hiking. Not that I would openly admit that with the steward of Gondor within listening range. It was considerably colder here and so I materialised a much thicker and warmer coat, one with a black fur hood. I took off my leather one and hung it of a nearby dead tree, some lucky traveller can keep it.

As we sat around the fire waiting for our dinner, bacon and eggs with bread, the others kept asking questions about us. They were all rather curious but the hobbits were the most eager to hear. They fired question after question to rapidly that barely anyone else got a chance. Eventually though, the rightful King managed to slide one in.
