It had been many years since we'd brought about peace, in fact it had been over a decade. I smiled to myself as our son, Haldir, struck out at Boromir with his weapon, trying his best to land a hit on the proficient warrior that was his father. Boromir chuckled as Haldir let out a battle cry as he swung again, only to be foiled by Boromir's parry. It was reminiscent of that time, so long ago, that he had been trying to teach Merri and Pippin to fight, except now there was no danger. Beyond that though I could now see lots of silver hairs beginning to streak my husbands beard and hair, not that it took away from his handsome features, in other words: I'd still tap that.

"Mummy, Haldir can't beat Daddy can he?" Enquired our daughter, Ruby.

She was only 5 and had been named after Boromir's mothers favourite jewel. Apparently she was rarely seen without a ruby pendant or other jewellery displaying the beautiful red stone and so to honour her memory that is what he called her. He said a ruby is a precious jewel, and like it, our daughter will be treasured. It was insanely corny but so very adorable and so I'd agreed, and with her red hair I honestly don't think any other name would have fit so perfectly.

"He may not now, but one day he will be big and strong enough to rival anyone" I told her and she giggled.

"Can you beat Daddy?" She asked and Boromir overheard her.

"Want to find out?" He asked with a grin as Haldir caught his breath.

I smirked and sat up from my seat, materialising a naginata as I tapped Haldir on the shoulder to signal he should take a break.

"Kick his ass Mum" he said and I laughed while Boromir frowned at his use of language.

"You should really try not to spew so many profanities in front of the children" he said with a sigh.

"I don't spew profanities" I said in mock outrage while both our children laughed, "I enunciate them properly, like a fucking lady!"

And with that I lunged forward and aimed for his shoulder, which he dodged before hitting the pole with his sword, knocking it to the side to create an opening which he exploited by stepping into my space and swinging for my legs. I materialised a shield however as I let the naginata fall to the ground and quickly blocked his attack. I materialised a dagger in the other hand and Boromir was forced to take steps backward to avoid getting sliced.

"Go Mummy!" Shouted Ruby and I laughed.

"Why don't they ever cheer for me?" Asked Boromir with a chuckle and I shrugged.

"Clearly they favour the underdog" I joked.

He stood his ground facing me and I patiently waited for him to make his move. He smirked as I kept my stance, shield in one hand, dagger in the other. After realising I wasn't going to strike first he swung at me and I quickly ducked under the blade, moving past him and under his arm before twisting to strike his back, but he was ready for me. He quickly swapped hands on his sword and spun as he caught my dagger with the hilt of his sword, twisting it out of my hand and knocking me off balance. He grabbed my waist with his free hand to stop my fall and with the other he held the sword to my neck.

"I win" he said with a smile and honestly, if our kids weren't here right now I would have ripped his clothes off him immediately.

Instead I settled for grabbing his face and kissing him hard as Haldir and Ruby shouted their disgust from the sidelines. He pulled back and rightened me before turning on our kids and shouting "are we a little jealous that Mummy is getting all the attention? Do we want kisses too?"

I laughed as they both squealed and ran with Boromir chasing them, laughing his head off. He finally managed to capture Ruby and planted a bunch of kisses all over her cheeks and head while she screamed and giggled. Meanwhile, in a heroic attempt to save his sister Haldir grabbed my fallen naginata from the ground and used the pole end to jab his father in the butt. Boromir Shouted in surprise and put Ruby down, turning back to his son and drawing his sword once more as he playfully challenged him. Haldir turned the weapon to face the right way and took a stance very similar to my own (it was nice to know he was learning).
