It was the eve of the 3rd day when we saw a pillar of green light shoot into the sky and we came to a stop to marvel at it. Boromir turned to me and sent me a concerned and questioning glance.

"What is that?" He asked.

"A call to war" said Karma and he looked back to the pillar and then towards our destination.

"The orc army will be leaving Mordor now. On the plus side Rohan will receive the call to aid Gondor soon. They'll gather their forces and march out if all goes well" I said to him.

"Let us hope they arrive while there is still a city to save" said Boromir grimly.

"They will. Also Aragorn will be bringing even more reinforcements back from the dead" shrugged Karma.

"He can raise the dead?" He asked and I shook my head.

"Not quite, But he can get them off their lazy asses. You'll see, it's fine. Also Frodo will be in Mordor now if that makes you feel any better" I told him and he glanced down.

"I wish him the very best and hope that he can do what I could not" he says, "we must make haste. If Sauron's army is on the move we need to get to Minas Tirith before they arrive".

He urged his horse into a gallop and Karma and I followed suit. We wouldn't be sleeping tonight after all. I materialised a No Doz pill and a can of energy drink (A/N: I strongly advice against doing this by the way. I've done it and while affective you will feel like your body is vibrating and if you stop moving you'll get nauseous. Have one or the other, never both.) and hoped that the crash would come AFTER we'd reached our destination.

As the 4th day crept past my anxiety grew, as did my exhaustion. I downed 2 more pills and wrestled with the knowledge that Faramir will have already left to reclaim Osgiliath for his father, who probably would not have believed his firstborn still alive. As we approached the white city at last we caught sight of a metric shit tonne of orcs occupying the walls and assumably everywhere beyond that. We had gone far around the outpost to avoid conflict but I could see the tension in Boromir's posture as we rode towards the gate of Minas Tirith. As we came upon the gate guards were calling out to open it with cries of "the steward-prince has returned! Captain Boromir is alive!"

It was a weird experience riding to the very top of Minas Tirith as every person turned to stare in awe at Boromir as we passed. Somewhere deep down I always knew he was a warrior of well repute and that he had earned many glorious titles but on our journey he'd always just been treated as another member of the party so it didn't really sink in. It was only now as the people looked on with hope at the return of their captain-general that I realised what a hero he was to the people. And he was mine.

"Look at you Mr Big Shot" joked Karma and Boromir acknowledged the jest but couldn't bring himself to smile as he hurried towards the citadel atop the city.

As soon as we reached the top, where the tree of kings stood looking beautiful despite the gloom, Boromir hopped off his horse, leaving it to be led off by a soldier. Karma and I followed suit and very soon we were bursting through the large double doors. As soon as we entered Pippin glanced up and I was shocked that despite Boromir having lived he still ended up in service to Denethor. Speaking of said steward, he glanced up at us from his seat below the throne of Gondor and his expression turned from grim disinterest to shock, as though he'd seen a ghost.

"Father" Called Boromir, a faint trace of relief in his voice to find his father safe.

Denethor stood from his throne and walked forward slightly, the shock melting away as hysterical joy replaced it. He rushed the last few steps and embraced Boromir, who returned the hug, before pulling back and grabbing him by the shoulders and studying him, as though still unsure whether he was dreaming or not.
