Karma's POV.
It'd been a day since we'd been taken and I still hadn't said a word, despite Merri and Pippin's prompting. I was beyond miserable and it was my own fault. I should have known what Alice would do, I should have been watching. As soon as I noticed her gone I'd alerted the others and we'd all gone to find them. I felt tears well up again and let them fall freely. One of the last things I'd said to her was that she was an idiot...
I sobbed and Pippin looked over to me and said, "You don't know for sure that she's dead. Why don't you message the group chat on that device you gave everyone? Surely you can summon a new one".
He was right of course, but I'd put off doing exactly that because I was scared of the answer. I couldn't shake the image of her laying there with the arrow in her back, blood soaking everything around her. I glanced at my hands that were still stained with it and took a shaky breath before giving him a nod. I materialised the iPhone discreetly and typed a message: WE'RE ALIVE. THEY ARE TAKING US TO ISENGARD. I paused before adding the last part, IS ALICE OKAY?
I hit send before I could back out and then tucked the phone up my sleeve so that the Uruk'hai wouldn't see it. I hoped the others still had their own phones still on them. I glanced to Merri and Pippin and they offered me consoling smiles. I'd just have to keep faith, Alice was stronger than most, there's a chance she pulled through.
Alice's POV.
Everything hurt and I struggled to figure out where I was or what had happened. I remembered I was going to save Boromir... oh damn, the fight. Was I dead? No, if I was I wouldn't hurt this much. I felt as though I was being tossed about and let out a moan of pain which caused the rocking to cease. I felt arms under my own lift me as whatever rested against my back was removed and the person or persons laid me down.
I opened my eyes and squinted as light blinded me. I could see two silhouettes above me and struggled to bring them into focus, but once I did I attempted a small little smile.
"Boromir, Aragorn, is that you? You look terrible" I teased in a croaky voice.
Boromir frowned while Aragorn let out a relieved chuckle. I then spotted Legolas and Gimli off to the side and gave a nod to them. Legolas broke out in a smile and Gimli laughed a little. It felt so good to hear their voices again but more than anything I was just glad that Boromir was alive.
"You're okay" I said smiling at him, expecting him to be relieved but he just gave me a furious glare.
"What were you THINKING?" he shouted and I jumped at his elevated voice.
The sudden movement brought about more pain and I flinched at it and groaned, rolling to my side to reach my hand back and feel out the wound. Aragorn places a hand on Boromir's shoulder and led him away for a moment and my favourite elf and dwarf stepped forward. Legolas immediately sat me up carefully and said "I apologise if it hurts, I had to cauterise the wound, I was worried about leaving a scar but..." he trailed off and I was immediately aware that he must have seen the scars.
"Did the others see?" I asked and he just nodded apologetically.
I sighed and looked towards Boromir who was whisper shouting something at Aragorn who seemed to be trying his best to calm the man. Gimli followed my gaze and gave a sigh.
"Don't let his theatrics fool you lass, you didn't see what he was like when he thought you'd died" he told me and I frowned guiltily.
"It took both Gimli and Aragorn to pull him away from you so that I could get to the wound to treat it" admitted Legolas, and then he said "but when we pulled up your shirt and he saw the scars already there he fell silent. It wasn't ideal but at least I was able to stabilise you. After that we had to set out and he insisted he be the one to carry you".
