As we ran through the dilapidated halls of Moria I had a sudden feeling of dread creep up on me. I wondered how long it would be until we saw Gandalf again. I had actually come to enjoy his company quite a lot, he was less judgey, more chill. Then again that could also just be because he was smoking weed most of the time. First we were going to lose Gandalf, and then we'd lose Boromir.
I gut twisted and I realised I really didn't want him to die. I mean, sure he was pretty intolerable some of the time but he meant well overall and I honestly had fun bantering with him and pushing his buttons. But most importantly, unlike Gandalf, Boromir would be dead permanently. On the one hand things could go horribly out of control and wind up spelling the end of middle earth if I changed the plot too much and saved someone I shouldn't, but on the other hand Boromir was, deep down, a good person and he deserved to be saved. Ugh, such mixed feelings on this one!
"Damn!" cursed Karma from beside me with a pained expression on her face.
"What happened?" I asked in between paced breaths.
"Well, haha...stitch" she laughed painfully, holding her side and shaking her head.
"I told you stretching helps" I said with a smirk.
We came to a flight of stairs and rushed down them rather quickly in a desperate attempt to escape the demon pursuing us. We got to the infamous gap and Legolas jumped it without a moments hesitation, followed by Karma who landed with surprising grace on the other side. I however, decided to stay back a moment to help toss the hobbits over the comparatively large gap. Gandalf, even at his age, jumped the distance and successfully landed on the other side and after him went the hobbits, Merry and Pippin, who we threw to Legolas and Karma. Boromir then made his leap and I watched as yet more stairs fell away making the distance wider. Aragorn then threw Sam over to Karma who steadied him on the other side and I took this opportunity to jump before the gap got any bigger. I put as much strength as I could into my legs and pushed off the ledge hoping it was enough to make it. After a stomach dropping second of free falling I only just made it, but upon landing, tripped on a stair and crashed into someone, causing them to fall backwards down the stairs and become a cushion for me to land on top of.
"I'm real sorry, I didn't mean to-..." I opened my eyes and looked down to see Boromir.
"Oh, never mind, if its you then thats fine" I said simply and got up leaving him to pick himself up.
I looked to the others just in time to see Gimli tell Aragorn that nobody tosses a dwarf before leaping and falling short, only to be saved when Legolas dragged him up by his beard with him yelling "NOT THE BEARD!"
I suppressed a giggle at that and turned to watch the balancing act that was about to take place. Only Aragorn and Frodo now remained on the barely stable section of stairs as the area behind them got smashed and the base of their stairs started cracking, separating itself from the main structure. I watched in disbelief as Aragorn and Frodo successfully distributed their weight and directed the falling formation towards our section of the stairs, landing just before their previous footing disappeared into the abyss for good.
"No matter how many times I watch that it still seems wildly impossible" said Karma having just watched that unfold.
"Dear middle earth, why do you hate physics?" I asked, earning a chuckle from Karma.
We ran down the remaining stairs in a haste and pretty soon Karma and I could see the bridge where the most epic showdown was about to take place. I glanced at our dear old wizard and hoped he'd forgive us for letting this happen. I already felt guilty and the situation hadn't even unfolded yet.
