"Today is the day!" I shouted as Éowyn gathered some things to take to the caves today.
"Are you nervous?" She asked me.
"Are you kidding? I'm terrified!" I told her with a laugh.
"Try to stay safe" she said.
"We're in a stone fortress about to be laid seige upon by an army of mutated orcs. I'm not sure what part of this entire situation would constitute as safe" I shrugged.
"Are you going to speak to Boromir?" She asked.
"Nope! Not if I can help it" I told her with a cheeky smile.
"I just hope that at the end of this you don't regret saying nothing" she warned.
"We're going to be okay" I assured not only her, but myself too.
I looked down at my casual tracksuit pants and jumper and decided that it was probably not wise to wear such flimsy clothes into a war. I think it's time I dressed the part of a warrior. I materialised a chain mail shirt, thick links all the way down to mid thigh in length. I held it up to Éowyn and raised my eyebrows.
"That looks right" she reassured me.
I put on a long sleeve black shirt and threw the chain mail over it so that the links wouldn't pinch my skin. I then threw on a pair of black leggings and finished it with brown leather boots, matching belt, steel grieves and vambraces. Hopefully now even if I don't manage to block an attack it won't do nearly as much damage. Éowyn gave an approving nod as she took in the ensemble and then came around behind me and braided my hair to keep it out of the way.
"You may want to consider a shield" she told me and I took her word for it, materialising a round shield similar in style to the one Boromir had as it looked easier to carry. Éowyn smirked as she took in my choice but didn't say anything, and for that I was grateful.
I nodded to her as I left the room and made my way to the main hall of the keep. I breathed a sigh of relief as I saw that it was only Aragorn and Legolas currently in there and marched towards the table they sat at, currently eating breakfast. As I sat they both stared at me, taking in the new look I guessed.
"I did not recognise you for a moment" Legolas told me and I chuckled.
"You look like a warrior" Aragorn complimented and I smiled in thanks.
I materialised a large breakfast of eggs, bacon, grilled tomato, avocado and feta toast covered with pumpkin seed and a hot chocolate. Both of my companions stared at me with raised eyebrows and I looked at their own pitiful meals.
"You don't think that will be too much?" Asked Aragorn.
"I'll probably be too anxious to eat later so I'm filling up now. Want some? It's wonderful" I tempted them.
After only a short pause both nodded and I gave Aragorn an identical dish while giving Legolas a version where I replaced the bacon with a hash brown. I was just guzzling the last of my hot chocolate when a voice from behind me startled me so badly I began choking and coughing until my eyes were watering.
"Alice?" Boromir called disbelievingly, staring at my attire while I died a loud and chocolate flavoured death.
Damn, I thought I'd be lucky enough to not bump into him... okay, act normal. Act normal, it's fine. If he asks why he hasn't seen you tell him you've been busy helping the people, he can't argue with that, it's true...
"Are you TRYING to kill me?" I demanded as I finally caught my breath, eyes watery and throat sore after such a horrendous fit.
He completely ignored my antics and asked "Have you been avoiding me?"
