The Beginning of the End

Chapter 15

Reece

When Nova calls me 'Tate', I look at her like a mad person.

"I'm pretty sure that my name is Reece," I say sarcastically.

She looks at me with tears in her eyes, that's when a little voice at the back of my head says, "are you sure, after all you lost your memory and Reece is only the name that Beck gave you when they got back to the camp." But I don't remember, how can she remember and I can't? "Because you don't want to," the voice in my head tells me.

"You think I'm crazy, don't you," she says making my attention snaps back to her.

"It's just the girl I remember, she was different and scared," I say skeptical.

"Yeah and the guy I knew wasn't an asshole, just forget I said anything to you," she says walking further down the highway.

The rest of the walk was silent and we were still following the tracks of who we think are the men in white suits. We walked until it was to dark to see and then walked a bit of the highway into the shelter of the trees. She takes out a can of salted meat, that was a few days away from going off and passed me one too. We ate in silence and she went off the was herself in a 'creek' that she swore she saw about ten metres away. I don't bother lighting a fire because I'm pretty sure that's how we were found in the first place, so I lie down looking at the beautiful shining stars and the moon.

I am no longer looking at the stars and moon but I am sitting on a seat with many people rushing around yelling, they have weapons and were running like crazy. I realise I am sitting in a massive room next to other children all younger then me. A man hits the ground and the children start screaming, blood streams down from a hole in his head, dead. A women hits the ground a meter away from the man writhing in a pain, blood rushes from a hole in the middle of her chest, she goes silent. A child gets up and runs over to her.

"No!" I scream as the child drops to the ground beside her, dead.

What's going on, I look down at my hands and they are smaller and less dirty then what I remember.

"Oi!" A man yells at me, "you know what to do, take these."

The man hands me a small tin box, "what is it?"

My voice shocks me, it is higher then I remember, the man replies," inside are two pills take them if you both get into trouble, they wipe your memory."

"Will it come back?" I ask.

"Depending on how strong your memory is, how hard you fight to get them back, now go, you know where to find her," he yells, pulls me up off the chair and pushes me forward.

The whole scene changes, I am no longer witnessing people being somehow murdered, I am standing in a grassy field in the middle of the night.

"Hello?" My tiny voice calls out, again shocking me.

"Hello?" A small voice replies and movement catches my eye a few meters away, someone is hiding in the long grass.

"It's me Tate?" I say and instantly the person hiding in the grass, jumps up and runs over to me, embracing me.

"I'm scared Tate, the monster got my daddy and mummy, where is your daddy?" She asks.

"He told me to find you and look after you now," I answer.

"What happened to your camp, Tate?" She asks and it is to dark to see her face.

"They are being attacked by the mole men," I say.

"Oh..." She says starting to cry.

"Come-on, let's find some place to sleep," I say and the scene changes again to moulding house with a musty smell.

"Ha! Let's go Tate!" A seven year old girl asks me.

She has slightly tanned skin, with black hair and hazel eyes, she is wearing a grey baggy track suit pants and a black tee, with a messy bun.

"Okay, let's go, have you got everything?" I ask and her messy bun shakes on top of her head when she nods a yes.

We walk out the house and I turn around and look at the door, " hey, just take one more check, kay?"

She grunts and walks back into the house, I take a pocket knife out and scratch into the door a love heart with Tate plus Nova equals BFF. When she walks out the house I show her and she laughs and hugs me. The scene changes again, she is older now maybe twelve or thirteen, this time I am taking out the pills that the man gave me and handed one to her, we both ate them at the same time, then I tell her to run. I yell at men in white suits and run my heart out as they chase me. After I run out of their sight I trip over a metal board bust my knee open, I keep limping away from them though. I finally collapse, the scene changes again.

"Son, I know you are only young, but I must tell you something," A man says to me, I assume he is my father, he looks a bit like me just older.

"Yes dad?" A small voice comes out of me, yep he's my dad.

"Whatever you do, you must remember to take care of Nova, not only is she the answer to this worlds problems but you must save yourself," he tells me.

"What do you mean dad?" I ask.

"Nova is important, the most important person in this world right now, you have to protect her and get her to 'Lost Soul City' they will know what to do with her there how to save the world, but if you don't save yourself you will create so much havoc that there won't be a world left for Nova to save," he says.

"What do you mean I will create havoc!" I yell.

"Son, Nova carries the the vaccination in her blood that will cure all sicknesses and diseases even the one that the creatures give people when they bite them, Tate you carry special robots called nanites that will kill every living thing on this planet, if you do not get to the city before you turn nineteen this planet and everyone and thing will die except for you and Nova, and you won't last to long without food," he says cringing.

"How?" I ask.

"Your blood is special like Nova's but the nanites are taking all of the foreign properties in it and are using them to create a toxin which will be release into the air at midnight on the 1st of the 10th in the year 2370, you have eleven years," he replies.

"Dad, what happens if I die or the mole men or the creatures get me?" I ask my final question.

"It won't matter if the creatures get you once they taste your blood they will all run away, if you die, the wold will be destroyed and if the mole men get you, the will use you blood to kill innocent people and take power over everyone and kill Nova because she is the only one who can cure the worlds diseases, and kill your nanites," he says I am about to ask how when I wake up suddenly to see Nova shaking and yelling at me to wake up.

"What is it, princess what's wrong?" I ask standing up.

"THEY FOUND US!" She screams, I believe until I hear the rumbling noise that I hear when they are around, it takes me less then a second to grab her and start running.
