The Beginning of the End

Chapter 14

Terah

"Wake up, Miss Knight," a female voice awakes me from my dreamless sleep.

"Who? Oh yeah, me," I say nearly giving the game away, but maybe she will just think it's because I'm getting over the memory loss.

"Hello Miss Knight, I am your superior, boss as you may say, I am going to go over a few tests with you then take you to the control room, have a shower then get dressed with the items found in your closet, I will be back in ten minutes, if you are not ready I will be dragging you out naked," with that the tall young women with brown hair walks out my room.

"Okay?" I walk into the shower, wash myself and get changed into a pair of black shorts and a black singlet, the clothes reminded me of Nova.

I sit on the bed and wait for the women to come back, the door flies open and a boy about the same age as me rushes in.

"If you want to know how to save your friends meet me at the back of the cafeteria at 12 pm exactly, if your not there by then I will assume you don't care and I will leave, goodbye, Terah," the boy whispers then runs out the room.

"...um?" I say shocked for the second time in under ten minutes.

A few minutes the women walks in the door, "ready Miss Knight?"

"Sure," I reply.

"Follow me then," she waiting for me to get up and follow her out the door.

We go through a series of white corridors, until we reach a grey, metal door which she opens by pressing three numbers on a funny looking box, she didn't see me look but the code was 532. She ushers me into the room and gestures for me to take a seat on a chair furthest from the door on the other side of a metal table. She sits down on the chair across the table from me.

"Okay now I just need you to answer some questions for me okay?" She asks and I nod.

"What is you name?" She asks.

"Um, Caitlin Knight," I reply.

"How old are you?"

"I don't remember," I lie not knowing what she wants me to say.

"Where are you?"

"A place called the Complex," I state and she gives an approving look.

"Do you remember a boy who looks this?" She says holding a picture taken from a distance of Reece.

I nearly gasped but answered,"no."

"Do you remember a girl who looks like this?" She says holding up a picture also taken from a distance of Nova.

It took all of my willpower not to scream and reply calmly, "no."

She looks annoyed but isn't finished asking questions.

"Do you remember the names Nova King or Tate Walker?" She asks.

Who is Tate I wonder?

"No, sorry but who are these people?" I ask interested in why they are looking for Nova, Reece and some guy called Tate.

"Um, they are dangerous escapees of the Complexes jail, they are murderers, and we have to find them to get them off the streets, they murdered camps of people in the outside cities," she replies having to think of an excuse to tell me, interesting.

"Why would you think I would know?" I ask.

"Because they kidnapped you on the way out, hit your head, that's why you lost your memory," she says, she is wrong though, I have my memory and I know for a fact that everything she says is a lie, but why?

"Enough of this test, you will be tested once a week, time to show you the ropes," she says uncomfortably, leading me out the room.

We walk down to the room that I was in yesterday and she taught me how to use the machines, my job only involved me pressing buttons when they flashed and taking messages to and from certain people, lame.

"Okay lunch, the cafeteria is down the hall, second door to the right, you have to be back here in two hours, see you later," she says pushing me out the door, what a rude woman!

I find the cafeteria and look for the back of it, whatever the hell that meant. I see a shady looking guy leaning against a wall. I push past several people as the place was packed.

"You found me with 10 seconds to spare, Terah," he says.

"That's not my name, I'm Caitlin Knight," I say lying just in case it's a trap.

"Fine 'Caitlin' if you don't want to know how to find Beck and Jane and get the hell out of here, then I'll just leave," he says.

"Where are they!?" I say blowing my cover, now he holds all the cards.

"Ah, knew it, Terah follow me," he says I look up at his pale skin with freckles and red fiery hair, he was a bit taller then me and had a built figure and was wearing black jeans and a black hoody, he was kinda cute.

"Um what's your name and why do you care anyway?" I ask.

"Lee and Beck's my big brother," he replied and my jaw hits the floor.
