Y/n lunged up gasping for air. She held her hand over her heart as she panted from the dream she just had.
It took what felt like forever to catch her breath, but once she did,  she noticed Sammy wasn't lying beside her.
"Sammy?" she whispered, a bit scared of not getting a response.
She curled up in a ball, her hands clutching her head tightly. All she could do was remember how it felt to slowly die.
A few seconds later Sammy walked back in holding a glass of water.
"Hey you okay?" He asked, placing the glass on the nightstand. She looked up and flung herself at him.
"Shh, it's okay.. I've got you. No one's gonna get you my little sheep."
He wrapped his arms around her, and she tightly gripped at his shirt.
"I can't do this anymore!" she cried.
"What are you talking about? Was it another nightmare?"
She sat there crying into his chest.
"Answer me, please.. I need to know what happened."
"They think.. they thought they can kill me and get away with it.. And they did.."
"You're not making any sense y/n."
"I just fucking drowned in ink! It was a dream but I could feel every last bit of it.. The need for air, the struggle of not being able to move and just feeling yourself sinking deeper and deeper while your lungs are are giving out.. It was the most painful thing I've ever felt.. Taking that last breath, and no air coming in, just ink slowly filling my lungs."
Sammy felt completely helpless. Y/n's dreams were getting worse and there was nothing he could do.
"The thing that scared me most of all was the fact that you would have never known what happened to me.. And I never got to say goodbye.."
Sammy gripped her as tightly as he could. He didn't know what to say or how to comfort her.
"I was so scared of never being able to see you again.."
"I won't that happen. There's no way you're going to die on my watch."
They sat there in silence, y/n's arms tightly wrapped around Sammy. She was scared of letting go. He was slightly rocking the shaken up sheep in his arms, trying to comfort her.
"Shh, it's okay my little sheep. I'm always going to be here for you."
They sat in silence until she eventually fell asleep to a soft comfortable melody he was humming.
✒️
"Morning my little sheep. I made you breakfast."
"What time is it?"
"Seven thirty. I figured you'd be tired from last night so I decided to let you sleep in."
"Okay.."
He stood up but she quickly grabbed his shirt sleeve.
"I'm kinda scared to be alone.."
He smiled at her and sat back down.
"It's okay, I'm here my little sheep."
He made sure to be close by to her, and on the way to the studio she was completely wrapped around his arm.
By the time they arrived she had calmed down and managed to push the dream to the darkest pit of her mind.
"So how many songs have you got so far?"
"Only two concepts. It's not a full piece, but it's better than nothing."
Y/n nodded in agreement.
"Hey little sis!"
"Susie! Don't sneak up on me like that!"
"Sorry, geez. So I'm going out for coffee, y'all want some?"
"Wow, Susie Campbell actually being nice. That's something ya don't see often."
"Can it, ass shit. Y/n you want somethin'?"
"Oo can you get me an expresso?"
"Sure thing! And what do you want ass shit Lawrence?"
"I want a plain black if you don't mind."
"K' guys I'll be back later!"
Sammy pulled y/n close to him and whispered, "If only prohibition wasn't going on, I could be drinkin' some nice alcohol."
"Amen."
"Ah, Lawrence, just the man I was lookin' for."
Y/n felt a chill go down her spine at the sight of Bertrum.
"What now?"
"You sound unhappy to see me. What a pity. I was expecting a big, Good morning my friend!"
"We're not friends."
"Why not?"
"I know you didn't disturb me for some small talk."
"I value a man who gets straight to business. Now, I was sent to ask your progress on those songs."
"A good song isn't written overnight."
"I am aware of that. But I asked for your progress, not your useless facts."
"I have two concepts. Happy now?"
"Only two?! Why that's ludicrous! I am shamed to say I expected more from you."
"Well maybe if I didn't have so many distractions from you I wouldn't have a problem!"
"Hey Sammy-"
"Why I outta get you fired right here and now!"
Y/n pulled at Sammy's sleeve.
"Come on.. You don't wanna start a fight with him."
He snarled at Bertrum and walked to the music room, pulling y/n behind him. She looked back at Bertrum, who was staring at her with a strange look in his eyes. It was almost lustful.
"I hate that guy."
"I know.. You okay?"
"Yeah.. We might as well get started writing those songs."
Y/n sat at the piano, and Sammy sat beside her.
"Coffee delivery!"
They both looked up at Susie who was walking toward them.
"That was quicker than I expected."
"Yeah they opened a new place right down the road."
"Well that was still fast for a walk up the road."
"Are you kidding? I got a brand new Sunbeam yesterday!"
They both stared at her.
"Where the hell did you get enough money to buy a motor car?"
"Sammy we should totally get one, so we don't have to walk!"
"Until Joey brings our checks up, we probably won't ever be able to afford something like that."
"Well I can give you guys a ride now!"
"That's so cool!"
"Here you guys go, enjoy your coffee."
"Thanks!"
"Careful now, it's still really hot."
They took the hot drinks from her and set them on the piano top.
"Well I'll leave y'all to it!"
After she had walked back out the music room door Sammy muttered, "One, she never answered me on how she was able to afford that, two, I still think we need alcohol."
"Ya know what's really good, an old fashioned Irish cream. Imagine a nice creamy coffee with a sweet alcohol blend in it."
"We should run away to Ireland. We could just be like screw you Joey, and just leave him hanging but it wouldn't matter cause we'd be over seas."
"Can we actually do that?"
"I wish. If I left this whole place would go under."
"That's true."
"Let's just get this stuff over with."
They were able to write a full song or two without any distractions. It took a few hours but it wasn't like they had anything else to do.
"Hey I gotta use the bathroom, I'll be back in a minute."
Sammy gave her a thumbs up, but he didn't look up from his music sheet.
Y/n left the music room and walked down the hall. After she left Sammy got a gut feeling that something wasn't right.
"Well hello there beautiful."
She turned around, only to be faced by Bertrum.
"Now where are you off to?"
"T-that's none of your business."
"Oo, a feisty one. I like that. "
Before she could walk away he had her pinned against the wall.
He looked her up and down then gave her a creepy smile.
"What do you want?"
"Well I was wondering if you'd like to go out sometime. I'm sure you'll find my tastes are most exquisite."
"Um.. That's nice and all but I'm already with someone.. Sorry."
"I doubt this other man is as rich as me. I'm sure he'll understand why you left."
"I'm not going to leave him for a couple of bucks."
"Why of course. I'm more than just 'a couple of bucks'. I'm worth thousands my lovely rose."
"I'm not interested in snobs. Now can you please get off of me?"
He was stunned at her response, but quickly changed his arrogant tactics.
"Oh I see.. Playing hard to get." He pulled a small decorative rose out of his vest pocket and put it in her hair, and back up a little.
As soon as he was off of her, she tried to run back to the music room, but she tripped over a risen plank in the floor.
"Trying to run away? I guess you really are hard to get! Or maybe you're just a shy type who was only acting tough earlier. So intriguing.."
He grabbed he arm and pulled her up.
"Let go of me!"
"What if I don't want to?"
"Well then your going to answer to me."
They both looked over to see Sammy who was rolling up his shirt sleeves.
"Put her down this instant!"
He dropped the frightened y/n, who fell on her knees.
"Relax, Lawrence. I wasn't going to hurt her. I was just-"
"I don't give a shit what you were gonna do! No one, especially you, puts their hands on her!"
"Aw, are you jealous? Listen Lawrence, keep your personal feelings out of the work place."
She could tell Sammy was trying really hard to keep his composure, but it probably wouldn't last long.
"I could say the same to you. "
Y/n went to stand up and Bertrum wrapped his arm around her.
"Well I'm sure she'd choose me over you any day!"
He kissed pulled her into a kiss. She could feel the tension in the air from Sammy's rage. Y/n pushed him off of her as much as she could and slapped him.
"Get the fucking hell away from me!"
She then took the small flower out of her hair and threw it on the ground.
Bertrum just stood there in awe at her. Since he was finally away from her she walked quickly over to Sammy and pulled him back into the music room before he could strangle the arrogant idiot at the other end of the hall.
"He didn't hurt you did he?"
"No-"
He grabbed her wrist and checked her arm where Bertrum had grabbed her. There was a red hand print from how tightly he had her.
"That fucker.."
"Sammy I'm fine. "
"None of this is fine!"
He sat down on the floor, holding y/n in his arms.
"No one is allowed to have you.. You're my little sheep, mine." he growled.
"You know I love you and only you."
"I know.. It's just.."
He sighed and put his lips up to hers. Y/n wrapped her arms around his neck, pulling him closer in to her.
Little did she know her actions against Bertrum a few minutes earlier only made him want her more.
