Your POV
(Cause it's not like 99% of this book is written in that POV because I'm a lazy bitch...)*Beep beep*
I shift, half asleep, hearing the noises emitting from my alarm. I feel Katie roll over.
*Beep beep*
The noises begin to get louder, but with me in my deep state of sleep, I barely notice.
"Hmmmm." Katie groans, sitting up. She clicks the alarm off, and turns back to me, my arms still tightly wrapped around her waist.
She gives me a small nudge, but when that does nothing to wake me she slumps back down onto the pillow.
I feel her playing with my hair, and begin to wake, noticing the bright chestnut colored eyes just barely open, gazing at me.
"Morning." She says.
"Morning," I yawn, sitting up.
I get up, and after throwing on my officer coat over my black tank top and jeans, and Katie throwing on her cadet uniform, we leave the room.
We make our way to the board room where meetings and everything are usually held, after quickly swinging by the cafeteria so that we could grab a quick bite to eat, and some coffee.
Once in we have a seat and wait for everyone else to enter. One by one they all make their way in, and the door shuts.
"Voltron," Iverson begins addressing. "We're needing you to go up against the Galra.... The shield is losing energy, and they've noticed."
We nod.
"Get to your lions, and get your armor on." Keith instructs. "Then... We attack."
Everyone nods and goes to exit the room.
"Wait," I say confidently. "I'm going with."
I sprint outside to where the Grey Lion has been stored. It's all repaired, but I haven't had the heart to fly it in the last few years. Too many memories.
I take a deep breath before stepping inside. I take in the view of the polished surfaces, the dim lighting, the control board. It all feels like a scene from a movie as memories of my times flying it as a paladin race through my mind.
I suit up in my silver, black, and white armor, put my hair up out of my face, and pull on my helmet.
"Alright Grey, let's do this." I say through a sigh.
I don't know how "ready" I am to face the Galra this time. I haven't flown my lion in years, I wasn't "mentally stable" enough to. Truth is, we're weak. For humans, our weaknesses are almost second nature. That's what differs us from the Galra. They catch onto our weaknesses and use them against us. We fight for what's right, for the people, for freedom. They fight for victory and domination.
Over half of Earth's remaining population has been captured by them. Something needs to be done.
They've caught on to a weak spot in our shield. It can't hold much longer, and if they get in.... We're all as good as dead. So what can we do but attack?
As much as I hate admitting it, I've changed quite a bit over the years. I'm not the same selfless girl who'll put herself in harm's way without hesitation, I've built some walls. I'm more methodical with my battle strategies. I won't act until I have a full plan in my head... And that's how it's been the past three years.
So.... Why am I doing this now? I have no idea what's going to happen.
Maybe it's another change. Maybe it's my friends. Maybe it's because I have a team who actually trusts me, and cares about me. Maybe... It's Katie.
Maybe it's the fact that if I ever lost her again I'd actually die, I'd no longer have a purpose.
Maybe it's the fact that she is my purpose.
My grip on the controls tightens, as I pull back a lever to lift off. I click on my headset, and end my contemplating.
"Ready?" Keith asks through the headset.
"Damn ready as I'll ever be." I say, determination now overriding the fear in my tone.
My lion repels from the ground, lifting up into the air. I remember this feeling, the way I felt when flying in here. It always felt right... Like I was destined for this. Now, the feeling is starting to resurface, and it's... Blissful.
But my happiness is cut short when I remember what we're doing.
(A/N) Short chapter, I'm sorry. 10/11k special in the next chapter. 🖤🖤 Suggestions are still open!
