Chapter Fifty-One

Jane Doe: Good morning beautiful sleep well?

In the span of a single week, things had shifted and changed drastically when it seemed as if nothing else in my life had changed at all. Jane Doe and I had texted with each other every night usually about nothing. At first, it was to find out what I could about him which wasn't really much. Then it turned into just having a nonjudgmental person to talk to.

Not that anyone else was judgemental but he was such an easy person to talk to. Because he wanted to know about me. I was careful not to share too much information instead mostly focusing on my feelings. He wanted to know about these things and seemed interested in what I would say. At least by texting standards and yeah I was really desperate right now.

I hadn't told anyone about this though I'd planned to. I feared Liam would question me and the way he'd been doing that lately I couldn't just tell him easily. Maggie was trustworthy but I feared she might tell Liam. My relationship with Reggie was still so unclear I couldn't tell him.

Again I was keeping things from them I shouldn't but it seemed almost like this was the only thing I had to look forward to. At least the stalking had seemed to stop. He promised me if we talked he wouldn't follow me anymore and I believed him. I knew it wasn't normal or a good thing.

The fact he was making me promise him to text him so he wouldn't follow me around was odd, to say the least. However, I had this feeling of security that he wouldn't hurt me. He wanted nothing more than to talk to me and I could give him that. He helped me to despite the fact I didn't want to admit it.

"Ariel?"

"Hmm?" I looked up at Zayn realizing I'd been spacing again.

Considering we were supposed to be working on the project I needed to get it together. and stop looking at Jane Doe's texts. We had a project to finish so we could finally end this between us.

"You seem distracted?" he noted.

"Sorry just thinking."

"You were looking at your phone. Actually, you've been doing that a lot lately."

Had he been watching me to know that? No, he couldn't be but I was surprised he'd noticed.

"Is that a crime? You look at yours all the time."

"No it's not but it isn't really like you."

"What do you expect me to do? Hang on every word you say? See what good that did me."

He looked annoyed but thankfully was in the semi-good mood that told me he wouldn't be yelling at me. Good and besides I didn't need to be so rude or hateful with him. It wasn't fair for me to be thinking about text messages when we were supposed to be working together to receive a good grade which was important to him. He was only asking a question anyway.

"I'm sorry. I shouldn't have been looking at my phone."

"It's okay you can look at your phone I do." he chuckled.

"I really shouldn't be when we're supposed to be working on this project."

"You seem different."

"Different how?"

"Distracted. Not just me either. I think Liam and Maggie are noticing. I'm surprised no one else has noticed. Or have they?"

"I don't think I know what you mean."

"Come on I think you do. What's been on your mind?"

It was flattering yet laughable he was asking now. Jane Doe with all his flaws already had been. it kind of was strange someone else now was.
