Chapter One Hundred Three
"Gummy bear you okay?" Liam questioned me softly in worry.
"Fine I'm fine," I said not taking my eyes off him.
It was frightening how he seemed to be completely calm as he talked with the other adults minus Alec and Eric which I kind of expected. It was best for everyone involved that they didn't speak to each other. I feared what he might say to both of his former friends and in front of the others in attendance. All I'd wanted was for this night to go off without a hitch but for now, that was all up in the air.
"Listen he's my dad too kind of so your not alone," he offered quietly.
He'd just acknowledged Kenneth as his dad and I turned to look at him in wonder. Of course, he was trying to make me feel better as he always did. Even though our dad's presence in here was also bothering him. It would have to be the way he took Maggie's hand in his and held it the entire time almost like he was seeking her out for support. She'd sat right there and held his right back the entire time. I was grateful for her and grateful for him and the fact he was looking out for me.
"Thanks, Lee bear," I whispered back.
"No problems siblings have to stick together just like best friends. Considering were both that's really important for us."
"Your right and I want you to know you're not alone either," I smiled up at him.
"Neither of you are," Maggie assured from beside him,
"Aris he's just another party pooper," Nick tried to comfort in a very Nick way as always.
He called everyone a party pooer when they arrived at any celebration or gathering with a bad attitude. In his mind, these events were only for fun and everyone who attended them should be trying to have fun and ensure the others had fun. He was right about this but party pooper couldn't be helped when the subject in question was your drunk of a father. Miles knew this as well minus the drunk part. I couldn't help but wonder what kind of drunk he'd be.
"I don't know about that. He's enjoying himself so far," Reggie spoke.
"He does seem happy," Maggie noted.
"He's also under the influence," Sunny frowned.
"At least it's just alcohol right?" Matt frowned.
"He's not a nice drunk or funny," I sighed.
"Maybe tonight everything will be okay," Sunny offered.
"I hope so."
I doubted it would be. For as long as I'd hoped everything would be okay it usually wasn't. Kenneth was unpredictable and you could never know for sure what he would do next. Dangerous enough without alcohol he was much worse when he did have it and he'd clearly had it. He didn't smell of it tonight but he certainly looked it in his expression.
He staggered just slightly but he must not be that drunk. The thing with him sometimes even a drop was enough to set him off into anger and sharp words. No one wanted that. I looked over to find Miles's eyes on me and he gave me a weak smile in comfort and I returned it. Zayn seemed to be watching Kenneth as did Melinda, Lita, and Emma. His eyes were weary and angry but there's were curious.
I knew Melinda knew how Kenneth acted but even she usually invited me over to her house instead. Joanne never minded and always treated me kindly as I thought her daughter always did. As for Lita and Emma, they'd never met Kenneth and I didn't know how much she might have told them about how he was. This was one time I really hoped they'd stay quiet and I'd try to never bother them again.
