Chapter Sixty-Five
"Who is this?" I questioned in shock.
"You don't know? Ariel, I'm so disappointed."
The voice sounded robotic and muffled and I couldn't tell what it sounded like but I realized one thing.
"Jane Doe?"
Liam's eyes widened.
"Yes, dear. It's me."
"You're calling me finally?" I asked, sitting with my legs crossed on the bed.
"Yes, finally. I needed to hear your precious voice just once. Then perhaps more." He mused.
"Why are you calling me?" I wondered as I motioned Liam to come sit beside me.
"You had a tough time last night, didn't you? With all those people around. You shouldn't have gone to his house, you know. All those people aren't like you. You'd never fit with them, you're better than they are." He stated.
"I'm not trying to be better than them."
"Of course you don't but you could be. You could be so much better than them."
"Are you ready to tell me who you are?" I asked trying to change the subject.
"I want to, so badly but I don't think you'd like me anymore." He sighed.
My eyes furrowed, "Why wouldn't I like you?"
"I'm afraid you may not like everything about me."
Everything about him? I didn't know anything about him besides the fact I apparently knew him and went to school with him. He was a guy but other than that I didn't know who he was.
"I won't judge you. I promise." I assured.
"That's what I like about you. One of the many things." He chuckled.
Liam gave me a look and I shrugged. "Liam's there isn't he?"
My eyes widened, "Yes. How did you—"
"You'll come to know that I'm very smart, darling. So smart, it didn't take me long to find his house number. It wasn't that hard, to be honest." Jane Doe answered.
"How did you find his number?" I asked.
"A magician never reveals his secrets."
I rolled my eyes. "Right. Well, tell me why you really called."
"I told you. I was worried about you, my dear. Can I not worry?" He questioned.
"Yes, but I'd much rather you tell me who you are," I muttered.
"In time, love. I'm not sure either of us are ready for that yet. I'll tell you soon but until then I just want to talk to you. Is that alright?" He pled.
"I guess, as long as you tell me who you are eventually." I sighed.
"You have my word, Ariel."
"Okay thank you."
"I want to try and talk to you every day if I could. I know that will be hard and probably impossible. So then I'd like to talk to as much as I possibly can. At least once a week."
"Okay sure," I allowed albeit uncertainty.
I couldn't be sure if agreeing to this was a good idea or not but he was only requesting to talk to me. I didn't want to make things worse but I didn't know what else to do. He seemed to have followed me again. How else would he know where I'd been.
