Chapter Seventy-Eight
"Honestly your life is super weird it just is," Nick chuckled and I glared at him.
We'd spent our Friday evening after work all hanging out at waffle house because Reggie and Nick were craving it. Honestly with the plate of already half-eaten chocolate chip pancakes on my plate I was apparently hungry too. The last week had seemed to be a whirlwind for me.
As I was explaining to them it had officially started just last night when everything had happened and I ended up at my house with Zayn and Miles. I'd picked up some writing utensils, school books, perosnal books I'd already read, other things I didn't need and headed back downstairs. I didn't like what I'd seen when I had gone into the kitchen. Mom had a deep frown on her face as she crossed her arms and watched the scene before her in concern.
Kenneth had a beer in hand as he gazed at Miles and Zayn who were seated at the table with him and something told me he'd invited them to sit down otherwise they wouldn't have. Noticing my appearance in the room Kenneth looked from me to them as they looked from me and back to them. Kenneth chuckled suddenly as he took a swig of his beer. It was never good when he was drinking.
"So could I interest you guys in a beer?"
"Kenneth," Mom warned in disapproval.
"No thanks we're not even eighteen let alone twenty-one," Miles answered.
"Come on it will be our little secret. I know you two have to drink. I was a kid too once."
"No thanks," Miles answered again and Kenneth nodded his head.
"Zayn you don't want some?"
"No."
"That's a surprise. You know daddy used to be by drinking buddy before eh went all big shot principal. You remember though don't you?" he chuckled.
"I remember," Zayn answered.
"Right they always did say you had a good memory," he mused.
"We can go I have everything," I voiced.
"You know it's funny Ariel's memory isn't always so good. Or is that she just remembers what she wants to? I guess the things she's forgotten she never cared about to begin with."
Kenneth knew, somehow he knew. He was clearly baiting Zayn who seemed ready to explode at any second but right now he kept his cool. Like he was making fun of the fact I couldn't remember. Not that he'd tried to help me to remember but it just didn't make sense. Almost like he wanted it this way. It wasn't like he could have altered my memory right? We needed to get out of here.
"You don't know your daughter, do you? Zayn asked.
"Be careful talking about daughters when you don't know anything about it. I've been on this planet a lot longer than you and there are things I know that you haven't even started to learn yet but you will. That's one thing you can bet on kid," he said smirking at him then turned to Miles.
"Nice ride out there you have," he said to him.
"Thanks," Miles responded.
"It must have been pretty expensive right?"
"I'm sure it was. My parents got it for me as a gift for my birthday."
"Of course they did. Their precious kid had a birthday. I just knew James would make sure his kid had a nice car to drive."
"I appreciate that he did that but it doesn't hold gas very well," Miles defended.
"Really? You didn't ask daddy to go get you another one? Or did he decide it was a little too much since he sent your sister to that fancy college? Must be nice to have money."
