Chapter 39: The Calm Before the Storm

Andrea's POV:
A week has passed and there were no signs of Kristine and her friends. It's good, yeah, but really suspicious. Dumagdag pa yung mga itsura nung mga nadadaanan namin, they're smiling. Smiling. As in S-M-I-L-E! They hate us! Then all of a sudden, being really 'friendly'.

"I'm having a bad feeling about them. Addition to that, they're being really creepy." Adelle shivered, maybe imagining things.

"Korak ka riyan, girl!" Medyo nanginginig na saad ni Chelle.

"Idagdag mo pa yung absence nina Kristine," Diane said tapos napabuntong-hininga. Well, they've been absent ever since that time. You know what I mean.

"I have a bad feeling about this," Mel said with worry evident in her voice. So do I! I really have this bad feeling about their absence. It's like a silent warning of things to come.

"Let's just hope that she took my words seriously. She shouldn't act like a spoiled brat anymore, because she's old enough to be atleast matured," I said straight-faced. Napabuntong-hininga nalang din ako. I don't want any of us to be harmed by Kristine or anybody who hates us, or me. Feeling ko nga baliw yun si Kristine, I do kaya'y may mental problem.

"Oh, we really hope so." Mel's words were the end of our conversation.

We acted normally, completely opposite of what we really are feeling. We remained cautious. Kristine and her friends' acts are very unpredictable. They can do anything as long as we're inside their eyesight.

As we reached our room, we exchanged glances. Meaningful glances. I nodded at them, breathed in and out once, and held the doorknob. I silently counted up to three before I opened the door. We quickly stepped aside, expecting something to fall or pour.

But there's none. I exhaled air out because of relief. I unconsciously held my breath due to tension. Pumasok na kami sa room, while still being cautious, at pumunta sa mga seats namin. Chineck ko muna yung upuan ko tsaka ako umupo.

"What are you doing?"

"H-Huh? Oh. It's nothing. Yeah. Nothing."

That's partially true. Yes, wala akong tiwala kina Kristine, but let's give them the benefit of the doubt. Wala kaming pruweba if ever may mangyayari sa amin ngayon kasi wala sila.

"Okay then."

"Eh ikaw? Anong ginagawa mo?" Pagbibigay-pansin ko sa ginagawa niya. "May ka-text ka?" Pag-uusisa ko pa.

"Well, multitasking is the appropriate word to use," sabi niya at saglit na ipinakita yung nasa screen ng phone niya. "Ka-text ko si Ginger. Cinocongratulate ko siya dahil sa pagkapanalo niya sa quiz bee nila. She got the highest score. While talking to her, I'm just scrolling at my SNS account," sabi niya at nagkibit-balikat pa. "What's your account name? I searched your name before, but I can't find you. There are results, but they're not you."

"Same goes for me. Hindi rin kita mahanap sa kahit saang SNS (Social Networking Sites)," pagsabat ni Bren na nakikinig pala. I also noticed the other two, except Andrei who's also obviously listening, nodding.
