Breaking the breaking news

I was sitting on my couch, phone in hand, thinking of what to write. I turned on the TV so my neighbors who are roughly fifty to sixty wouldn't think anything strange of me, and so it looked like I wasn't sitting at home, doing nothing.
I heard a knock and jumped up, paranoid me looked out the blinds first and I quickly realized that it was in fact Jekyll and Hyde, but by the way they looked I was unsure if I wanna to let them in. They both looked like when Jekyll made a groundbreaking cure or when Hyde beat a well-known mafia boss in a fight. I decided to wait it out, another soft knocks later and I heard Jekyll whisper, "She must've fallen asleep We'll Come by later..."
but then Hyde said " wait, wait,wait" then I heard scribbling and the footsteps went away.
Once I was sure they had left I breathed a sigh of relief. "Thank the lord.... now I just wish I had a meeting that would last all day." I whispered to myself
I wasn't trying to be rude, just the way they looked made me feel awkward, like it was something big that I wouldn't want to be a part of. I laid back on the couch and covered myself up but the blanket was too short and showed my now blackened feet. That was a whole other problem, the black had now spread to my torso and I was starting to worry, What if the Army saw what would they think? What is even happening to me? I sighed and got up, time for a meeting, so I can maybe avoid Jekyll and Hyde a little longer. I walked to headquarters like always
"Red, Wait up!" I heard behind me, it was Pen. I stopped
" Any incidents with pain?" I asked
She shook her head, " No, no not at all."
"How are you, Red? Anything special happening?" She asked as she struggled to keep up with my fast pace.
I slowed down " Sorry about that, Jekyll and Hyde cams by this morning and I'm trying to avoid them. They just look unusual."
"No, it's fine. As for Jekyll and Hyde, They obviously have something they need to say."
I went into headquarters and started a meeting. About an hour later I heard the familiar laughter and voices of Jekyll and Hyde echo through the building. I was in my office, still unable to write. I heard a soft knock on the door followed by giggles.
I sat my head on my desk then I sat up, "Come in...."
Jekyll and Hyde walked in holding hands and smiling.
"We have something we need to tell you." Jekyll started
I put my hands on my desk and gave them my full attention.
"You wanna do it?" Hyde asked
"Well... I can, do you?" Jekyll laughed
"No, you do it." Hyde giggled
Jekyll breathed "We're having a baby, Red!"
I just smiled then as they got up to leave I said
"Dr. Jekyll will you look at something for me?"
He gestured for Hyde to go to the car.
I lifted up my pants leg. He looked at it, intensely.
"I've never seen something like this," He says touching my leg and watching as the blackened skin molted and revealed fresh coal black skin underneath.
"You're a shy person right, Red?" He asks as he pulls out gloves from his pocket
"Mostly, Yes."
He shut his eyes " I may have to have you come back to the lab with us. Would that be okay?"
" Should be."
Then Jekyll and Hyde drove me to their house. Jekyll paced around the lab
"Don't get too worked up, it's just a little problem." I suggested
"Red, you sound like a certain Edward Hyde...."
" Well... it's the truth what would even happen it's not doing anything to me now."
"I fear that you're forming a natural alter and since you're shy you're alter's making a cocoon around you to be able to transform the first time."
"So this black stuff is just going to consume me until they come out and we see them for the first time?"
Jekyll nodded
"Then... I can't be around you or anyone who I'm afraid I'll hurt." I rationalized
"No, no Red."
" So What do we do?"
" We take everyone we know who has an alter and when that happens we keep it under control until you're ready for it."
"You too?" I asked
"No, of course not, but I can help the others I'm sure Hyde would be willing to help."
" I just hope all this will be okay and I won't hurt anyone."
" I promise you won't." Jekyll reassured ten he hugged me " you'll be alright."
" I'm happy for you and Edward by the way."
" Much appreciated." He smiled
Then I left the lab afraid of what I might become
