Sauske's POV

"This may surprise you four, but I've recommended each of you for the chunin exams." Kakashi said after finally arriving that day.

"Say what?!?"

"Good one Sensei. You almost had us."

Sakura and Naruto yelled out while Izumi and I remained silent awaiting Kakashi's response. The man then handed each of us an application telling us to fill them out if we wished to participate. He also made a point to tell us that it was completely voluntary and that we didn't need to turn in the applications unless we really wanted to. Kakashi then disappeared saying that was all for today. The others headed home or to whatever it is that they do on their days off. I wasn't the least bit interested in Naruto and Sakura, but Izumi... Something about her still seemed off. Especially since that conversation when we were leaving the land of waves. Who could she possibly be meeting up with? She doesn't seem like the type that has a whole lot of friends here in the village and her whole social anxiety problem didn't help to make it look like she'd have a lot of friends. Out of curiosity I followed the girl in question to a shabby looking apartment, and then the woods, and then the top of the Hokage's house. She clearly knew I'd followed her.

"Have you had enough yet?" the girl laughed at me clearly amused at how much I'd tired myself out, "If you want to know something you could try asking... I'm not saying that I'll always give an answer, but it's worth a shot."

"Oh really?" my eye twitched slightly, "How aren't you tired out for one thing?" I was still somewhat out of breath.

"I have a lot more training than you might think..." was her only response, "I don't really have time to play today, so we can talk tomorrow if you really want to." Something about her still screamed out that she thought in some way she was better than me.

Izumi's POV

I was still wary that Sauske was going to try and follow me as I went looking for Tenzo Sensei and already the sun was growing low on the horizon. Why was Sauske so interested in me recently anyway? He's an Uchiha, so any attention that I might get from him can't be good. I turned a corner losing the raven haired boy as I ducked into my apartment finding my old brown haired sensei set inside at the dining room table.

"You wanted to see me?" the man asked looking almost concerned as he sat there patiently with his hands folded neatly on the table, "We did just see each other not too long ago when you got back from the land of waves, right?"

"It's just that tomorrow I start the Chunin exams and I wondering about that training I mentioned before..." I started sitting across from my old sensei, "I want to be sure I'm ready for that. In the land of waves I was no match for Zabuza or Haku and with that being the case how can I be sure that I'm strong enough to make through the exams both physically and mentally?"

"You shouldn't doubt yourself so much." he sighed taking the time to pat my head as he headed for the door, " Zabuza and Haku were at least the level of a Jonin... You might not be at that level just yet, but with your current skill level... you're already on the level of many Chunin." my sensei finished as he left without making another sound.

. . . The Next Day . . .

My team met early that morning at the location where the first test was to be administered. Sakura looked unbelievably nervous as we entered and as we were momentarily held up on the second floor while we made our way to the third floor. Sasuke was also challenged by a guy named Lee who wore a strange green outfit with black hair and strangely thick eyebrows. It would seem that he only did so because Sasuke was an Uchiha... Not that I cared, but how come no one ever challenged me? I was from one of one the superior clans of the leaf village. That's not how I see things, but I would like to be the one that caught people's attention sometimes. The strange boy countered us in an open area jumping down from the level above us.

"You've heard of the Uchiha clan and yet you still challenge me?" Sasuke smirked not caring in the least that we were coming so close to being late, "You've got guts... I'll give you that..."

"Bring it on!" Lee challenged holding in hand in front of him, "Please, do not hold back!"

"Hold it!" Naruto announced boldly. Wait? Was he going to stop this pointless fighting, "I get him first! This weirdo is mine!" I should've expected as much.

I sat with my back against one of the pillars that rested just behind us, "Let me know when you guys are done playing around, 'kay?" I mumbled to no one in particular, "Don't take too long either. We do have places we need to be."

"Izumi!" Sakura groaned, "Aren't you going to stop them?!? And what if they get out of hand?" she squatted next to me whispering so that with any luck no one else would here.

"I'm not really interested..." I shrugged with a yawn, "If they do get out of hand it won't be too hard to stop them, but we are getting pressed for time here..."

Naruto tried to land a hit on Lee but was instantly flung into the wall behind the green-wearing boy. I expected him to last longer than that... I went over to my blond comrade and easily moved him from where he would be in danger of damage from one of the other boys' attacks and laid his unconscious body out on the concrete floor next to me. Sasuke then began to fight Lee himself activating his Sharingan near the start of their conflict. Lee easily knocked Sasuke in the air with an unknown technique and unraveled the bandages from his arms, but Sasuke easily avoided the attack and copied it.

Just then a tortoise appeared and started to scold Lee? "I told you that that technique was to be used only under certain circumstances!!!" the tortoise lectured.

"Can tortoise be senseis too...?"Naruto questioned us in a somewhat hushed voice.

"How should I know?" Sasuke and I said in unison leading to me glaring at the ravenette. All the while the tortoise continued to lecture Lee.

The black-haired boy began to cry after a while, but I couldn't tell if he was being serious or not, "I'm sorry Guy Sensei!!!!" the boy sobbed hugging a man that looked almost like an older version of himself.

"Now go Lee, to make up for it run 500 laps around the training grounds as punishment!" the man joined in on Lee's sobbing and gave Lee a thumbs up.

"What did I just see???" I mumbled to myself pressing a hand to my face, "Am I supposed to be throwing up now?"

"Oh? You must be Kakashi's students!" the strange man walked over to the four of us, "You certainly do look capable for rookies and there's four of you?"

"...." I hid behind Naruto as Guy tried talking to us, "........" Maybe if I don't move he won't see me........

"How do you know our sensei?" Sakura questioned pointing a finger at the man.

"Oh, I see you must be the little Senju..." Guy mumbled glancing at me while I continued to shiver behind Naruto, "You see I'm Kakashi's rival!" the man grinned pointing his thumb at himself, "Not to brag or anything, but I'm actually stronger than Kakashi!"

. . . A Pointless Conversation Later . . .

" I actually lied earlier..." Lee admitted as we started to leave for the room where the first test was to take place, "I'm not actually the strongest Genin... The strongest Genin is on my team though..."

We then met Kakashi Sensei at the requested room, "Good, you're all here..." he greeted us, "If the one you had decided not to show I couldn't have let the rest of you in..." he finished shocking all of us and making us all glad that we'd decided to show up despite our own worries and concerns.
