Third POV
"Hmm, Hanako-San?" Izumi questioned the nearly sobbing boy who gave a weak nod of his head.
She wasn't really the sort to believe in spirits or anything, but the boy seemed to be taking this pretty seriously. What were the chances that he was playing a trick on her? The blue-haired girl weighed her options for a moment before opting that it would be safe to help out the boy. Besides, what if there was some sort of actual trouble at work here?
"Okay, take me to where you saw Hanako-San." She managed a small smile as the boy looked at her hopefully before leading her to a small ramshackle old house deep in the woods, "This seems ominous..." a shiver shook her slightly, but not wanting to seem lame she brushed it away, "Why were you playing in a place like this, Kid?" the child only hid behind her shaking his head and clutching loosely at her t-shirt.
Izumi took off her jean jacket and deposited the piece of clothing on the grassy forest floor before making her way inside. He said Hanako-San, but this wasn't matching up to any version of the legend that Izumi had ever heard. This place was creepy by all means, but wasn't Hanako-San supposed to be on the third floor? And, this building only had two stories not to mention there weren't any bathrooms in the place from what Izumi could tell. She heard a light creak to her left and found herself lurking off in that direction. As she crept farther and farther into the building the air was filled with a deep, dank smell, and she felt a chilling cold etching its way across her bare skin. It seemed that either the creepy atmosphere that currently surrounded her or the boy's terror had diffused some fear into her and she found herself shuddering and jumping at every groan the building made as she stepped on the worn, wooden floor ever so carefully.
"Are you there, Hanako-San?" Izumi questioned tensely as she felt a dark presence behind her and hesitantly turned her eyes over her shoulder.
She saw nothing more than a pair of ruby eyes that glowed faintly in one of the looming shadows of the building, "I'm here." a voice whispered softly after an unbelievably long pause.
Izumi's POV
I took a shaky step forward, "Are you going to come out, or do I have to come find you?" another long silence answered me, "Well then, here I--!" a loudly banging door interrupted me and the glowing eyes disappeared before appearing just behind me.
I jerked around and distanced myself from the small figure. Before me stood what must've been an older academy student with bobbed black hair, ruby eyes, and a short red skirt paired with a white button up shirt. What she lacked in stature she made up in what was a pure creep show. A long red cut was dragged across her forehead and the blood that seeped from the wound was stark contrast to her pale, ivory skin that looked especially faint of color in the low light of the room. Her arms were also soaked with red along with the bright, white of her shirt and flowing damply from her eyes like tears. I felt myself nearly gag as the sight filled my view and the rotting sent filled my nose. All this... There's no way what I was currently experiencing was real life, was there? I found my way back outside to find the boy gone to which I frowned and pulled my jacket back on before placing my hands together in a hand sign. The house shimmered away and in a moment it was as though it had never been there to begin with.
I should've known, genjutsu... "Let's try this again." I hummed to myself smiling confidently, "Are you there, Hanako-San?" I tried again.
"Yeah, I'm here." the girl from before appeared again, but the only thing about her that seemed injured was her pride, "How did you see through me so easily?" she pouted puffing out her cheeks and tightly crossing her arms over her chest.
"I just knew..." there was no way I was going to tell this girl, that looked a little younger than me, that I'd been seriously hoping that everything I'd seen in there was genjutsu, "Now, what about you? You seem kind of young... Are you a ninja?"
"No." she seemed unsatisfied with my answer, "This is my last year at the academy... I'm Hanako Suzuki..."
"Ah, as in the Suzuki clan? I should've known with you being so good at genjutsu..." I laughed while the smaller girl continued to pout sitting herself on the ground in a crossed leg position, "It's getting late, so I'd better take you home." I held my hand out to her, which she reluctantly took my hand and lead me to her clan compound.
"This is the place." she said monotonously as we stopped at the front gate and found a man with black hair and ruby eyes waiting for her just outside.
"Why are you back so late, Hanako?" the man interrogated narrowing his eyes at the young girl, "You weren't playing pranks on people again, were you?"
Hanako's eyes instantly lowered to the earth and her hand tightened around mine as she gave a submissive, forced answer, "No, father..." the atmosphere felt stiflingly tense, "I just lost track of time..."
"Run inside now, young lady." the man ordered with a certain sense of authority to which the girl was quick to do what she was told not running, but quickly making her way inside the compound, "You're the little Senju." he commented with his gruff voice taking a moment to look me up and down thoroughly, "I'm surprised that girl was around someone as well behaved as you." a humorless laugh escaped his lips as he shook his head, "Tell me was that nuisance causing trouble again? I'm given one possible heir and she's not even worth my time..."
"She was just fine, Sir." it felt like this man would snap me in two if I said the wrong thing, "Hanako was just asking me for some advice since she's taking her graduation exam soon, but I never went to the academy, so I wasn't really much help..." Why do I feel like this guy is going to cause conflict later...? "My aunt will be home soon, so I should probably be on my way..."
"Yes, I suppose you're right." his eyes didn't stop staring at me even as I was several yards away, "You best stay away from that girl unless you want to end up in heaps of trouble that even that hokage aunt of yours can't get you out of."
