Kim sighed and placed more flowers down into the lake that surrounded the kingdom. Her long black hair had been put into a lovely braid by some little girls earlier that day. It was her eighteenth birthday. And Duncan had been kind(forced) to take her too see the purple and golden lanterns that they released into the air every year.
"Are you ready?" Duncan asked her. Kim looked up and smiled at him, over this entire adventure she had started to slowly fall for him. She nodded, "Of course. But...what if it isn't everything I'd hoped for?" She asked.
He frowned, "It will be."
"And if it is everything?" He smiled, "Then go find a new dream." Suddenly Duncan looked over and saw a single glowing lantern in the air. Kim turned around and gasped, it was soon followed by millions of lights. Tears formed at her eyes as lanterns surrounded the small canal boat.
"Its...amazing." She said softly. She turned around to be met by Duncan holding up two lantern's, she smiled and took one, sitting across from him the two raised their lanterns into the air. Their eyes never leaving each others.
"Thank you Duncan." She said softly. He smiled and took her hand, the two started to lean into each other. Their lips meeting, and what felt like more lights in the sky that night would last more than a ball of fire.
