We race out the door and down the hall to see what is going on. The lights flash as the alarm blares, never a good thing. With my gun in my hand, I make sure the area is clear before going down the hallway, Cyril hot on my heels. I get into the meeting room, looking at my father. Someone either got in here or in something they shouldn't have for the alarm to go off. It is hard to get in here, the place is the most secure place in Eastcliff.
"Who the hell is that person and how do they know where our doors are at?"
I walk up to my father's side and look at the screens, watching the figure in black make their way from one door to the next as they try to look for the one they want. They have to be someone from The Academy, no outsider knows the tunnels like they seem to know them. As I watch them I can't help but feel like I should know them. All their movements are so familiar but I can't place my finger on it.
"What do you see?" Cyril leans closer to me.
"I'm not sure... Something familiar though. Look at their movement and how they aren't stopping much to see where they are-"
"They know where they are going," Cyril finishes for me.
I nod and my father looks at me, he nods his head, and Cyril and I waste no time running down to meet this person. When we get there it is a mess of people trying to stop the person. As we get closer I feel something twist inside me. Something so familiar that it is going to drive me insane if I don't figure it out. Without thinking I go straight to the person. Losing my gun to grab a watcher sword someone dropped. I have no clue why they thought a katana was better than a gun but they seem to be doing pretty well with it.
For the most part, I like to play fair when I am fighting someone. If they bring, in this case, a katana to a gunfight then I'll ditch my gun for a sword. Good practice too. Not many fight with anything but guns now but there are some who still do. Very few.
"Hayden!"
I swing at them and they block it. I smirk as we go at each other, only frowning when I realize that we seem to be evenly matched. Neither of us getting a single hit in. Closer up I am able to tell that I am fighting another woman, one trained very well. I try to run through everything I know to get the upper hand. I smile as I think of something and in a quick fluid movement I knock her katana from her hands and she instantly dives to the side. I turn to face her and she starts to run off. I chase her and realize that every one that came with her has left.
I turn the corner and find her standing there with a small smoke bomb in her hand, "Until next time Haydie."
Just as Cyril comes up behind me I push him back as she throws it, knowing that she not only has a smoke bomb in her hand. It hits the floor with a loud bang and Cyril pulls me around the corner with seconds to spear. I put my hands on my knees as I watch others come over to see what they can do. I stare at the black floor as I think about everything she said.
"Hayden. Hey," Cyril lifts my face up so I am looking in his eyes, "What is it? You look like you saw a ghost."
"She called me Haydie... She..."
Cyril's eyes widen as he starts to think it over a bit. No one other than my family and Cyril calls me Haydie. After Madison's death I limited who could call me Haydie even more, she was the one who gave me the nickname with Cyril's help. I gave her the nickname Maddie and she decided I needed one. Cyril grabs my arm and drags me back to the meeting room and when my father turns around my mother is the first one to say anything.
"Everyone out. Now!"
Everyone quickly clears out leaving me, my parents, and Cyril in the room. I don't even know where to really start. Other than bringing up the nickname. I mean, it could have been just a random name but I don't know. There are so many others that she could have called me but she called me Haydie. The fact she even knew my name was Hayden isn't helping any either.
