I end up giving the speech, making it short so everyone can leave and get their belongings. Cyril walks with me to the car, Samson not too far behind. I pull my coat around me tighter when the wind blows. It wasn't that cold before but it is later. We get in the car and Cyril pulls out his phone. When he isn't looking I move my hand so I can see the ring. It is rose gold with some diamonds, a heart in the middle. I smile to myself before looking out the window.
"I take it you like it?"
I look over to him and he takes my hand, the smile leaving my face, "What makes you think that?"
"The smile on your face."
I smile again despite my efforts to hide it, "I guess."
He leans closer so we are only inches apart, "I love you... I hope you know that."
"I do... And I love you too."
He kisses me and I smile when I feel him smile against my lips. It is contagious. I can't help it. It's a sweet moment that I don't mind. And let's face it, I am a lovestruck idiot. That is madly in love with someone I have known forever but realized not that long ago that I can actually be with them. I will act like a lovestruck idiot if I want to.
He pulls away, "Good."
We pull away when the car stops and I look up to the rearview mirror when we start going again, "Samson... How long is this drive going to be?"
"Not long... If traffic keeps moving."
I smile, "Well, for the sake of the people on the road I hope it does."
I turn to Cyril just as another vehicle hits us. The screeching of tires and metal crunching is the only sound I hear. My side gets most of the impact. My head ends up hitting the window and everything goes silent for a moment. Who in the world wasn't paying attention this time? Slowly I open my eyes again and close them, my head throbbing. My ears start to ring as I open my eyes to look around. I frown when I look up. Samson hasn't said anything yet.
"Hayden," I look over to Cyril, he sighs, "What was that?" he looks at me before we both turn our attention to Samson.
He is moving so he is alright so far, "I'm not sure..."
There is a commotion outside and the car that hits us starts to smoke. Cyril quickly unbuckles and gets out to help Samson out. I go to unbuckle but the buckle is jammed. I curse under my breath as I try to get it to undo. The only night I don't have a knife on me and I need one. Perfect.
I close my eyes as the world spins a little, "Cyril," I whisper.
I keep trying and I can hear people shouting at others. I open my eyes again and try to loosen the seat belt enough for me to slip through but it won't work. Not only is the buckle jammed, but the whole seat belt is also stuck. I try to find something I can use but there isn't anything. I watch Cyril climb back in and I close my eyes, my head is killing me.
"Hold on..." he tries to get it to unbuckle but when it doesn't he curses under his breath, "I will be right back okay."
I open my eyes when I hear people starting to shout about something again, "This is nice..."
Cyril comes back in with a knife in hand and cuts at the seat belt. When he finally cuts it all the way he grabs my arms and helps me out. He won't let me walk and carries me over to the sidewalk, putting me down before crouching in front of me. He puts my face in his hands and looks at me, his eyes scanning me to see what injuries I have.
"I'm fine..."
He looks at me seriously, "Says the person with a cut on their head."
It doesn't take long for the cops to show up. The ambulance not too far behind them. Despite my protests, they still take me to the hospital, Cyril riding with me. When we get to the hospital we aren't there for long. After a couple of tests and some butterfly bandaids, we are walking out.
