XXXVII-Leo

Leo wasn't expecting to see snow in August.

It honestly came out of nowhere- the icy cold wind that chilled Leo to the bone. Only one thing- er, goddess- could summon that kind of power.

Gritting his teeth, Leo slashed through the empousa he'd been fighting, then glanced around as the golden dust floated to the ground.

There.

A mini ice-hurricane had formed around a figure, knocking down demigods and surrounding monsters. Pushing down his anger, Leo summoned fire, letting the flames cover his body, and he sprinted through the battlefield. The air was getting noticeably colder, biting at Leo's skin as he ran. The fire did only so much to provide him heat.

Finally, after dodging swords and claws and flying arrows, Leo made it to a group of demigods who had charged the figure in the middle of the ice storm.

Leo watched as a Greek demigod was thrown backward, a small shard of ice dug into his leg. Leo didn't know who this demigod was, but he felt a sudden protectiveness over him. Before he could lose the courage he'd somehow gained, he called out, "Hey, Khione!"

The demigods who had been fighting the goddess slowly backed up, staring at Leo. The cold-hearted goddess herself had a scowl on her face as she turned to Leo. "Valdez. So glad you could join the party."

"Yeah, I'm sure you're thrilled to see me," Leo shot back, his palms igniting with fire. "I'd have to say the feeling's mutual."

Khione growled, and the ice storm that surrounded her strengthened, the cold wind nearly blowing Leo over.

"Leo," A voice said. He turned to see his half-sister Nyssa, a concerned look on her face. "Please be careful."

Leo shot her a mischievous grin. "Don't worry 'bout me, Nyssa. I'll be fine."

He turned back around in time to see a icy dagger hurtling towards his face. Shouting a cry of alarm, Leo swerved to the side, feeling the icy projectile blowing his hair back. He faced Khione, almost feeling the fire burning in his eyes. "You want a fight, Ice Goddess? Then you're gonna get one!"

He shot a fireball hot enough to incinerate any lesser monster, by Khione just extinguished the flames with a blast of cold wind. She laughed, a laugh just as cold as the rest of her. "Leo Valdez, haven't you learned by now? Your attempts are pointless; you will not win."

"Won't stop me from trying," Leo muttered, dodging another deadly icicle. He was about to fire another ball of flames at the goddess, but stopped himself. That wasn't doing anything, and he'd just end up wasting his energy.

Khione gave him a smile- cold as always- and formed another ice dagger, holding it threateningly in her hand. Without a warning, she chucked the knife, and it flew past Leo's head.

He laughed. "You missed."

Khione raised an eyebrow. "Did I?"

Leo frowned, and turned around just as he heard a piercing scream. His eyes widened as he saw a familiar figure collapse to the ground, clutching her side. "Nyssa!" He yelped. The telekhine she'd been fighting raised his sword, ready for the kill. "Don't you even dare," Leo growled, tackling the monster to the ground.

The telekhine stabbed at his leg, creating a nice long gash, but Leo could care less. No one touches his family. He grabbed his sword and stabbed downward; the telekhine exploded into dust. Leo looked up to see Nyssa yank out the dagger.
