XXI- Piper

After the giant spoke, Piper was seriously wishing she had Leo's breath mints with her.

It was pretty obvious this giant didn't even know what a toothbrush was.

"Daughter of Aphrodite," the giant grinned above her. "So nice to finally meet you."

Piper tried not to gag as the giant's awful breath reached her.

"I'm so glad you didn't chicken out and stay on your puny ship. Honestly, this'll be much more fun now that you've come willingly."

Piper gripped her dagger. "Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm guessing you're supposed to kill me."

The giant grinned evilly. "Why, of course! Personally, I wanted to keep you alive. What better way to taunt your mother than to have her favorite daughter in the clutches of me? But, no matter. Gaea wants you dead. Then, once you're dead, I, Thoon, will be known among all of my siblings for killing the daughter of Aphrodite!"

Piper tuned out as Thoon went on with his monologue. She took the time, instead, to look over her enemy.

It made sense that Thoon would be the bane of Aphrodite. Aphrodite was love; so that would make Thoon 'hate'.

He was pretty hateful, by the looks of him. His long, dark hair was braided with what looked like broken glass. On his armor were the words, spraypainted, 'Death to Love'. His dark eyes gleamed madly, glaring at Piper as he spoke. His skin was also a dark gray; it seemed like everything about him was dark, spiteful, and full of hate. The large, deadly-looking sword in his hand definitely conveyed the same message.

Overall, he was the exact opposite of Piper's mother.

"So, daughter of Aphrodite. You ready to die at the hands of Thoon?" The giant finally asked.

Piper glared, but didn't say anything. Instead, she did the most impulsive thing she had ever done in her life.

She charged a twenty-foot-tall giant who was born to hate.

Thoon laughed at first, as he watched Piper close the distance between the two.

His laughter immediately stopped after Piper made her first cut into the giant's left leg.

"Oh, you will pay for that, Piper McLean!" Thoon roared. He brandished his dark sword, and grinned wickedly, a gleam of madness in his eyes- both anger and insanity.

Piper dropped to a crouch as the giant blade was swung over her head, then rolled forward, cutting another gash into the giant's other leg.

Golden ichor bled from the wound, and Thoon growled, but the dirt on the ground rose wrapping around the giant's leg, enveloping it in a giant mud bandage. When the dirt fell away, the once-bleeding wound was completely gone.

Not even a scar was left in its place.

Thoon chuckled- even his laugh sounded evil and hateful. "See, Aphrodite-spawn? Fighting is pointless. Mother Earth won't let her children die so easily, especially to the likes of a puny demigod such as yourself."

Fighting is pointless...

There were days where that exact line passed through Piper's head numerous times. There were days when she felt that fighting for her life wasn't worth it.

Yes, there were days when Piper felt like giving it all up. The gods can fight their own battles. Demigods should be able to live in peace; let the gods take care of their own problems.
