Recap-
"Oh, I appreciate the enthusiasm, Miss McLean. But really, it's time to face the truth. You're not getting out of here alive."
XIX- Percy
Percy wasn't happy to be back underground. Sure, it had gotten them back with Hazel, but then there was the price (apparently, nothing was free in the mythological world).
To get Hazel back, the rest of the Seven had to willingly enter one of Gaea's secret bases, knowing that they were marching right into the hands of the enemy.
But Percy knew that sometimes you had to do the stupidest things to save a friend. He himself had had enough experience of that fact to know how true it was. His fatal flaw was loyalty, after all.
Now, as he sat beside the same friend they had gone so far to rescue, he couldn't help but feel the slightest bit of anger. She was only thirteen, yet she was forced to be apart of this insane quest, this insane world. She looked exhausted, both mentally and physically, even as she slept. No thirteen year old should have gone through what Hazel did.
It was silent in the Seven's little prison, the only sound being Hazel's ragged breathing. The mood among the seven demigods was as dim as the lighting. Looking around, Percy could just barely see his friends faces. They all looked hopeless, like they had finally given up, and Gaea's little statement hadn't helped the mood.
Gaea's words rang through Percy's head. 'Time to face the truth...not getting out alive.' He didn't want to believe the evil earth goddess' words, but it wasn't easy to ignore them. Percy didn't see any way they could get out.
A soft groan broke through Percy's thoughts. He glanced to his left to see Hazel, the dim light from Percy's sword reflecting off of Hazel's golden eyes.
"Hazel!" Percy said in a loud whisper. "Thank the gods, you're okay."
Hazel's eyes darted to her right, meeting Percy's gaze. "Percy...?" She slowly sat up, eyes widening. "Gods, it is you! What are you doing here?"
Percy gave the daughter of Pluto a small smile. "We came to get you out of here. That plan kinda backfired, though..."
Hazel looked confused. "'We'?"
"Hazel!" Frank came into view, sitting down beside Hazel. "You're awake!"
Hazel grinned, "Frank!" She wrapped her arms around Frank's neck, giving her boyfriend a hug. She looked back at Percy. "You're all here?"
Percy nodded, "Yeah. Long story short, we spent all day searching for you, and ended up as prisoners to Pygmalion."
Hazel scowled. "Hate that guy."
"Don't we all," Another voice muttered. Leo walked up, taking a seat beside Frank, while sending an impish grin towards Hazel. Annabeth, Piper, and Jason soon followed.
Leo slipped his bag off of his shoulders, digging through it's contents before pulling out a small bag filled with ambrosia. "Here," he offered, handing Hazel a square of the godly food.
Hazel took it and ate it gratefully, her numerous cuts and bruises fading. The gash that ran along her arm closed ever so slightly. It wasn't fully healed, but at least it had ceased bleeding.
